=3 on that. And Arla milk and associated products are now being sold cheaply as no-one wants to buy them.

Does anyone believe an additive to stop cows farting will honestly not affect their milk? It's a crazy, stupid idea. Remember Mad Cow disease?

And another one supporting that view!

Though I believe it's more Burping than Farting that is the emissions issue.

The reassurances given on Bovaer are much the same as those given on feeding meat based feed to vegetarian animals, and that led to MAD COW DISEASE! The true consequences wont become apparent for many years! - AND THEN IT'S TOO LATE!

I've had rather a lot of contact with scientists, as in family members, former partners and friends, and their unshakable belief in themselves is somewhat alarming! Even when found wanting at some later date, they still have the 'arrogance' to dismiss it as 'that was the best we could do at the time with the information available to us!', not really putting their hand up and admitting they got it HORRIBLY wrong!

I wonder how many cow burps would be needed to produce the same emissions as one shorthaul flight? It would be interesting to know...

Next it will be humans having another additive put in the water to prevent them burping and farting! Cows etc have been farting since the beginning of time so why interfere with a natural process?

I wonder how they are going to stop volcanoes releasing methane into the atmosphere?

We get our milk from our milkman in proper glass bottles. No idea where he gets it from but I suspect cows may be involved at some point. I have never asked him whether they were farting or burping.

While in general I’m opposed to food additives, in the case of a specific cattle feedstuff additive, which doesn’t seem to pass through into our food chain, I think it seems to be a positive contribution to reducing human-activity methane emissions, that are seriously impacting on global warming. Regenerative grazing, where cattle graze on a variety of plants, might be another way of effecting a reduction; but while we practice intensive methods of cattle rearing, we’re going to need such techniques as Bovaer.
I’m far more concerned about industrial modification of foodstuffs, and the extensive use of sugars in processed foods. Recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I find I’m getting really interested in what constitutes ’food’ as opposed to ‘edible material’. Lovely though it is, we really need to start eating less meat and dairy, but better. And paying farmers better, not subsidising tax avoiding landowners.
Rant over!

I saw on the news that chocolate is rocketing in price due to global warming and a bug that is infecting the cacao trees and fruit.

A manufacturer said that prices would rocket and the taste wouldn't be the same due to having to use more additives.

I'm going to have to stock up on Easter eggs, cream eggs and other rubbish.

We like the plain chocolate hazelnut bars from Sainsbury's. They are now £4.25 each.

When it comes to putting prices up, Tesco is pretty good.   Normally lamb mince was just under £5 for 500 gms. Yesterday it was £5 for 250 gms - more than double. Lamb joints were being sold at half price with Clubcard.

They give with one hand and take with the other.

If you notice, the more essential something is, the more the prices have increased over the years. A TV for instance costs virtually the same today as one did in the 1970s, but food costs at least 16 times as much. Housing, both to buy and to rent is even worse. I could come up with loads more examples, as I'm sure most of us could if we took the trouble to look. When you are on a low income you notice these things.

Best Regards,
Colin
