Without being too much of a Scrooge, I'm glad Christmas is over. By coincidence, my credit card bill came in today - last year it came in on 25th. - and I'm gobsmacked at the amount I've spent. I don't feel guilty about a bit of excess or not being 'green', but it seems to be more expensive and more of a chore with each passing year.

Oh well, I'll get over it and cheer myself up by looking at holidays for the coming year - if the chancellor has left me any money.

Two drifters off to see the world.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.

It's lovely to see the family, especially the children, on Christmas Day, but we, too are glad it is over.Juggling the needs of over-excited dogs with family visits is taxing.

There are 2 of us plus dog, no family nearby. We all enjoyed Christmas Day at a leisurely pace. It was dreich for the dog walk, but plenty of other dog walkers were out & we all cheerily wished each other a merry Christmas; lovely to see some youngsters out with their new toys. We did the full works for the meal & indeed will be repeating it today with the leftovers. Can’t have too much of a good thing, it only happens once a year.
Yes, looking forward to 2025, but still enjoying the festive season (albeit it’s too mild for the stove to be lit).

I spend the two big days on my own with just the pets for company by choice, eat, drink, do and watch whatever I like when I like it.

It's bliss!

We were on our own in the caravan, which we prefer. Done the 30 to lunch in the past, which was a nightmare. And I watched Gavin and Stacey, OH went to lie down when it was on. He will get his own back today with all the football.

There were nine of us at my daughter's, including two extremely chatty youngsters and an ever-hopeful collie. Dinner was vegan but he's not proud, if it drops he's having it! A whole day with them all (I am blessed, I know) reminded me what a quiet life I usually lead... I was the only one driving and therefore sober, which might have had something to do with it. Today I'm starting my next patchwork project and gearing up to tackle the jigsaw and grown-up Lego awaiting me.

We all watched and thoroughly enjoyed the Wallace and Grommit! Just before that, we watched 'A Grand Day Out', the first ever animation; it's remarkable to see how far it's come.

I jump through a few hoops and tell a number of 'porkie pies' to keep well meaning friends at bay, who think Xmas alone is sad and needs 'remedying' by ensuring I share their festivities! - They cannot grasp that I have no interest in ANY religious aspect, find the greed and gluttony excesses pretty distasteful, and cannot put enough distance between myself and the children (utter brats!!!!)) of the family. Good friends who always throw open an invite to join them indulge in board games (spelt BORED in my world!) and charades - that equates to one of the circles of Hell in my view!

If I can spend the time with just my dog, NOT being dragged into something of NO interest, then that is an absolutely brilliant Xmas, where it pretty much doesn't exist and have an unwanted impact on me.

Not sorry to see Christmas over. Spent the morning in a hospital bed, but was allowed home in the afternoon.
I was supposed to be out on 24th, but nearly fainted on trip to the bathroom and caused a hospital emergency alert.
Hopefully a few more days will see me better. They told me it was a simple procedure and would be out the same day but I have been in and out best part of 2 weeks with problems.

I like to make edible gifts, buy myself a present, have a roast dinner and then eat the leftover in different ways for the next few days and stick whatever I cannot eat into the freezer.

I even got slightly annoyed on Christmas Day when I was asked what time I would join a group of friends in the pub when they would be there at XX:YY. I went there when it suited me as I had planned, and not according to other people's schedule.

4 nights in Scotland being fed and watered and no washing up, just what the doctor ordered.

I must admit I often find it something of a relief when it's all over. With all the constant bombardment with advertising from as soon as the kids go back to school in September, right up to and including Christmas Eve, then the radio and many shops playing Christmas music from the beginning of November or before, by the time it actually arrives I am already fed up with it. I can really do without all the additional stress!

Seeing the family over Christmas is great, but most of them live less than 30 minutes drive away, so we can see them anytime, and we usually do. It would be different if some of them lived 200 miles or more away. If I had my way we would book into a nice Hotel for a few days, preferably one with a nice log fire to sit round and do absolutely nothing. Bliss! However, my wife always manages to talk me out of it. In 56 years of marriage we have spent one Christmas away from home. We went to Spain for a week and enjoyed 24 degrees on Christmas morning, strolling along the beach.
