If I am unsure about the suitability of any road I tend to look at it on Google Earth and then use Street View to check out the road in more detail. Or use Google Maps where you can combine Street View with a ribbon map so its easy to shift past the bits you know are OK.

For Hilltop Cottage I would definitely avoid driving through Buckingham. Can you not take the A43 and turn off on the appropriate roundabout at Brackley? It's the middle one of the 3 roundabouts on the Brackley by pass.

Don't forget Buckingham does have a bypass so no need to go through the town. However some sat navs are inclined to route you through the town. I would like a fiver for every time I have towed or driven the motorhome around the town.

Thanks, that's what we intend to do. We have towed the caravan through Buckingham by mistake, won't make that one again. Anyway, if we go there, we will be coming from near Daventry.
A5/A43 then. Just a heads up that there is a single lane system on the A43 between Towcester and Silverstone. They are (finally!) putting in a roundabout to connect the new Towcester relief road.

Yes, the sat nav from MK to Brackley tries to take you through the town. I leave one dog in MK and one in Brackley when we are away, so know that route well!
