I was all set to get one a year ago but I did a bit of research and found several owners who were having all sorts of problems with the electronics - in particular the safety systems, which were displaying errors and doing peculiar things. Expensive car - particularly the diesel. Unusually was offered a test drive in the managers car which had a tow bar so i could test tow. That diesel is very smooth and quite economical. However the problems put me off and I went for a Kia Sorento which was just a year old and 8k miles saving about 10k on new price and a better trade-in price to boot! Kia has had an AdBlue problem - sorted under warranty and has, touch wood, been very reliable for the last 8-9 k miles. Great tow car.
I did consider a Mazda as a tow car a little while ago, but TBH it didn't seem to 'shine' in a number of ways, some models were not rated as great tow cars in reviews, Mazda does seem to be the poor relation in terms of reliability, not all Japanese brands are equal! There's a lot about them I like, but somehow just a niggling doubt it's the best for the job or/for the money.
