Ratty they sound good but at £114.51 a bit expensive. I was thinking more of these.

Those just stop the suspension from bottoming out.

They just move the stress further up the spring.

Not the ideal solution, Stiffer springs would be a better option, Or if the cars done a fair few miles, New springs and shocks may be a better option.

We had the MAD system on two mondeos we owned and the difference was amazing.  They aren't cheap but they are good.

Just had the MAD assistors fitted to our Passat Estate - big difference, well worth the £120 or so that they cost - car looks nice and level when towing and/or loaded.

Despite the car and 'van being a good match the wheels used to shoot up inside the arches as the passat has very soft suspension. No longer an issue and one more 'stress inducer' off of the list

I've just fitted these Grayston assisters to my Passat, and yes they seem to help a bit, in that the wheels no longer disappear into the wheel arches when towing. Its added maybe an inch or two to the towing height, it's still not level though, but I no longer ground out on speed bumps!

Very easy to fit, just take off the rear wheels. I used some bricks and wooden blocks under the car for safety, in case it rolled off the jack.

I was hoping to fit the MAD suspension or similar, but everywhere I looked it said *except 4Motion!

MAD now offer a spring for the 4Motion (not sure if this is the case for all years?):

I contacted them via email before buying mine and found them very helpful.

I bottled out and asked one of the mechanics where I work to fit them (the perks of working at a dealership I guess). The guy that fitted them told me it was a very straight forward job on my Passat. You should probably budget for an hours labour?

Been there tried that. They make for a very harsh ride. Effectively reducing the travel on the spring. This means that the springs bottom out when going over a bump, even when solo.

You get what you pay for. These are sticking an elastoplast over a severed leg. If you are even considering these you probably need new or uprated springs.

Tried both products on saloon cars, both work well.Mad probably the better option. Another I used that were very good are the monroe load leveller air shockers.

However whether you notice or not , they change the dynamics of your suspension at all times. So whilst the debate can go around in circles all day long as to whether theyre good or not they are at the end of the day, a suspension modification to your vehicle that affects its handling.

You must inform your insurance company of that modification. If you dont you are uninsured.

Hi

I fitted these to my last car as the back end droped dramatically when 'Van was on the back.  They worked really well for me and solved my problem.  They don't lift the car but stop the back end droping too far (stearing is too light when back end is down and speed bumps are a problem).

I would recommend them if you have a tight budget like I did as £20 is not a lot of money to spend and if it don't do what you want you can then think about the upgraded MAD.

As you are changing the way the suspension works you need to bare in mind that the ride when not towing will be a little firmer.

Easy to fit.  Boil them in a pot for 10 mins. do first one and boil the second while you are fitting the first.  Raise the car up at back, take wheel off.  Assistor will be hot but spread fairy liquid on it and starting at the bottom of the spring rotate it up the coil until you get about half way ish.... can't remember but it tells you where abouts on the instructions.  Wheel back on and drop the car. Done.  Now fit the second one.

remember to get the right size as there are 4 sizes available.  All you do is raise the car take wheel off (only if you ca't get to the springs). and measure the gap between the rungs in the coil at around the middle of the coil.

Cheers

Richard

Nope, mine is the 2007 model, and the ones in the link are for 1998-2005! Thanks anyway.

It took me 40 mins to fit the rubber inserts into the springs. if a garage charges you an  hour, you’re being ripped off!

I would also argue the toss as to whether the assisters constitute a suspension modification. I haven’t changed anything on the suspension, only inserted bits of rubber between the springs.
