Hi Paul, we have a 2 litre diesel SF, an automatic, bought it pretty much exactly a year ago & we love love love it! It's a 56 reg so the newer model than the one you have in mind. It was a Godsend for our camping trips last summer, the amount we got in the boot was amazing (as it should be, with the size of it!) Having said that, we still need a roofbox & our next trip will also involve a trailer & bike rack, but that's just us, with 3 kids & 3 dogs we don't travel light! Have only towed an empty trailer so far so can't really comment on the towing side of it but I can't envisage any problems, that's what they're built for!
Any questions just ask.

OP a friend had one but was only towinga smallish TT, very reliable but quite thirsty as abig car obviously. hyundai's are generally pretty sound although bits can appear cheap and plasticky even though they actually do last OK

I had a manual 53 reg Sante Fe 2.0L Deisel and towed a Lunar Clubman mtplm 1490. The only problem for me was to remember that the Van was on the back. We go to France every year and on the motorways travelling at 80mph legally I was getting 23mpg.

Assuming you car was around 1700kg or so (they must be at least that I would think) and can tow at least 2000kg (again a 2ltr diesel of this type) surely must be able to you certainly would not be legal towing at 80mph (130kmh to be precise). the rules are quite clear that if you car plus it potential towing weight (regardless of what you are towing) weigh over 3500kg you are limited to the lower speed limits in France
