Hi. I changed my tow car to aKia Sorento 2.5 ltr 57 plate in March.

Recently It has been as if it's hesitating  mainly as you are accelerating uphill in second & 3rd gear, in 3rd going above 30 at 2000 revs it sometimes hesitates as if it wants to go. I got it serviced at a kia dealers where they put it on a diagnostic machine twice where it showed no faults. I have since read some one had much the same problem & it was the fuel filter has anyone on here had the same problem.

2000 Revs is point turbo comes in.Check whether it has had a turbo software update as there was no recall and if not serviced at a main Kia dealer will not have been done.Common problem which i have had, is leaking EGR valve seats. This does not show on diagnostics as it works fine electrically but is failing mechanically.I had new one in May ,had exactly the same problem towing when putting foot down, new valve cured it.I did have fuel filter changed first but that did not make any difference.

Our previous Sorento (56 reg) sometimes lacked power, on diagnostic at the dealer, it was found to be a sticky turbo actuator, changed under warranty.

Fuel filters do tend to get neglected on modern cars.
replace it years on the annual service.

EGR valves and electronic turbo actuators also cause issues.

Splits in the turbo pipes also.

Sometimes the garages are lazy, They see no fault codes and assume everything is working as it should.

No real diagnostic skills needed when they rely on the computers.

Thanks for your replies. I've booked it back in on Wednesday this time someone is coming out on the road with me to see for themselves then hopefuly they will realise there are more to cars than diagnostic machines. Also hope the waranty covers repair costs but with my luck probably not lol.

We did not know our last one had a fault-we booked it in for a fault on the cruise control(software update needed or something). The mechanic said the dignostics showed the tubo fault.

Sometimes it seemed to have more power than others.

Kia changed the complete turbo under warranty.

Our current Titan which we have had from new is very responsive

The interior coating fuel tank of my 03 Sorrento started to delaminate last year. It came off in very small pieces which blocked the fuel filter and restricted the engine. I had to get a specialist diesel garage to blast out the inside of the tank and recoat it.

Would have been cheaper to get a new tank or a replacement from the scrappy's

Breakdown service had taken it in three times because it kept breaking down. No way to get to my work without a car so needed it to be reliable. Price of a replacement tank for a Sorento ?. Pricey I would think.

I had to replace both rear calipers which each seized within 6 months of each other - £199 each - labour on top.

Gear selection started to be problamatic and I cut my losses and got rid of it !

I took the car in today the mechanic took it for a run then put it back on the machine & says machine shows everything working fine. He thinks the problem is torque on demand due to tyres. When I got the car The garage put a new tyre on the front different brand from original. As my back tyres are due to be replaced soon he suggested I put the 2 new ones on the front & that should solve the problem. Does this make sense to anyone.

You should always have the newer tyres on the rear with the TOD system, but i doubt very much that this is the problem.More likely the EGR valve as this does not show up on diagnostics. The other thing that should be checked is the strainer in the fuel tank, as a lot of tanks have the lining flaking off and blocking fuel line. This is easily got at through the panel under the rear seat drivers side.

We bought our 56 Sorento last year and had an engine cut-out problem in April. Diagnosed as a sticking valve by two different Green Flag operatives and 'repaired' with a hammer. However, checked by main dealer who said the problem was caused by a disintegrating fuel tank lining, the bits were blocking fuel line or filter. 'Going to be expensive' they said. Didn't tell us that it was a known fault! Set the wife onto Kia Customer services who authorised free replacement.

These Kia's sound reliable cars! A friends Kia spends more time with Kia than it does with her!

If it's EGR problems then it's an easy fix usually solved by cleaning the valve and feed with petrol and a bottle brush (disconnected from the car!), Or just remove the damn thing altogether as I did!

The EGR on the Sorento has steel valve seats and these rust with the exhaust gases just as an exhaust pipe, causing valves to leak past. This occurs gradually then finally gets to a stage when engine looses initial acceleration until the turbo cuts in .When it has got to a late stage it has lumpy running when starting first thing in the morning and gives out blue smoke.
