Kia Sorento old model will definitely tow it.Discovery or any of the bigger 4 x 4s from Nissan, Jeep Mitsubishi etc.

You need the max permitted weight of the caravan and the weight of the towcar, ideally you should aim for around 85% of towcar weight (it is only a guideline!).

Freelander 2 would probably be ok not sure about Freelander 1.

Sorentos are  capable and reliable towcars, the last models are heavier than the current ones. 06 onwards are known as "facelift" models and have more powerful engines than earlier ones. Autos I believe are into high road tax bands.

We have a 59 reg (last of old models) which has a high spec as standard and will do about 30-35 mpg soslo, towing probably mid twenties. Its a manual and van is max 1400kg.

They can be 4WD torque-on-demand (XS XT and Titan models) or switcheable 4wd XE spec. All have selectable low ratio.

Nwere model (2010) is lighter and more poweful and can tow 2.5 tonnes-but that is over 100%

UK Sorento forum is helpful, as are the Land Rover forums.

Someone will probably advise you to have a Mondeo or a Skoda

I agree with DaveS, the biggest 4x4 you can afford! Disco Merc ML etc. Once you've towed with something like this, you won't want to use anything else.
I don't think a Skoda Yeti will do either!

I agree 4x4 are the way to go The later jeeps are mercs anyway But the new ones are Fiat I believe, and they are not that bad to run, it really depends on your day to day use

CR V diesel (2008 onwards) manual only will tow it OK (auto diesel will tow 1500kgs, manual 2000kgs) Maybe a bit over 85% but certainly less than 100%.Vehicle weight depends on spec. Will probably be more reliable than a Freelander and definitely less expensive to run than a Disco/ML etc

X trail would also do the job

Cheers guys ,the more advice the better. The more i look at reviews at the Kia the more it pulls me towards it.Would probabky go for an 06/07 model really. Is an auto better for towing as manuals seem to be quite rare.

4.2L Supercharged Range Rover or the 5L Supercharged Range Rover.

Anything less will be a compromise and lacking.

:)

Seriously though thats a heavy load and you need something beefy to pull it.

With a CRV above youu getting close to 100% of the cars unladen kerbweight. Around 96%.

Only a recommendation but they suggest a figure of 85% to ensure the car stays in control.

Sorento was towcar of the year in 06, we had a 56 model before our current one.Our road tax was £260 (manual 5 speed) check auto might be a lot more! (emissions higher!)

They have lots of torque, ours pulls happily in 5th gear, autos are popular.

Other consideration Volvo XC90 is popular too.

CRV's way to light to towing a twin , there only 1660kg kerbweight and with a van at 1600kg your close on a 100% towing match
