ok then ..we have a big decision to make...OH changes his car regular linked to his job....we have a swift conqueror 630 twin axle...he is limited to what cars he can have due to demand..he can choose between ....Ford Kuga 2.0 litre diesel tdci...or ford mondeo 2.0 litre tdci..we have at the moment smax 2.2 tdci diesel.....but unfortunatley doesnt look like we can have this time....what would you go for ...Kuga or Mondeo.????

if its a new conqueror 630 which has a MIRO of 1634kg and a MPTLM of 1834kg it a bit on the heavy side for either the mondeo or the Kuga as your towing match is way above 100%

Witnessed a VW Passat 1.9 tdi old shape towing one of them on Friday last week towing as if the van was not there

its a 2008...we are aware its a tad over..... just trying to get opinions on which is best choice...have no other options...and im not selling the van.....

Towing your caravan with one of these cars is just not safe!

It's more than "just a tad" over the 85% guide if it's 1834kg isn't it. Its significantly over a car weighing in at about 1600kg.

85% guide will give you a recommended tow of about 1360kg.

According to the manufacturer either car is capable of towing 2000kg but certainly your caravan is going to be in charge of your rig.

I certainly wouldn't do it just for the sake of retaining this caravan. I hope I am not nearby when an emergency occurs.

The Mondeo will be best of a bad lot so have that.

The Mondeo has a maximum towing limit of 1800 kg, but to do this without exceeding the maximum gross train wait means the car would have to be almost empty.

Either look for another car or change to a lighter caravan.

this is totally confusing me ...the miro for our van is 1532....when I put info UK what towcar...it says 97%...for the kuga...the mondeo is 107% so am I not correct that the kuga is a better match ?..it says slightly over... on other sites they say it is only a guide and 100% is still ok.....

and the kuga has a maximum towing weight of 2100kg.....on the other hand he could get a 3 litre discovery and it would tow great BUT the fuel usage during the week doing 70 miles a day we wouldnt be able to afford to go away...

We are having a similar dilemma on car choice, we currently tow with a Mondeo (now on its 3^rd clutch! Our previous Mondeo tow car was much better), though when we looked at the Kuga the boot space the small boot space put us off, and the inside is smaller than the Mondeo. We have towed up to 90% without any problems in the past, but the hardest thing with the Mondoe is keeping the nose weight down to 75kg

I know...im worrying over it...we get the car from OH work and change it every 3-6 months... so we dont have a lot of choice...kuga is coming out on top and dog will have to squash up...and heavy stuff will have to go on back seat...

Mondeo 2.0 TDCi powershift models have a 2000 kg tow weight & that is when the car is loaded to the gross vehicle weight.

New Kugas have a much bigger boot that the earlier model.

I recently bought a 2012 Mondeo to tow our 1480kg mtplm van, however that was down to buying nearly new so if I got a Kuga, it would have been the previous model. If I had a free choice, I would have the Kuga.

it will be a new car...its looking kuga ...even though boot is smaller...just wont have any passengers as back seat will be full too ..lol
