If it is the P38 (1994-2002) it should not be too bad, it will probably be the air suspension pump (common problem) and very easily and cheaply fixed. The pump is not very big and can easily be overworked, especially if there have been leaks on the system.

A reconditioned pump can be got hold of for under £100 and only takes 10-15 mins (at most) to fit. If you have more time you can recondition one yourself for around £30 (max) for the parts (cylinder liner and piston seal).

If it is the L322 models (2002 onwards) then, unfortunately, they are more expensive and a bit more work to change the pump.

the above link may help. It is fuses 27 and 29 and relay 20 (swap this with one for the heated screen to see if it works).

Don't forget also, the suspension will only change in height when all the doors/bonnet are closed and, if the air tank is empty, could take around 10 mins with the engine/pump running to fill the air tank.

I also have the 1998 P38 2.5 diesel (DSE) but mine is having a slightly bigger problem in that the turbo wastegate is sticking open so loosing power and chucking out black smoke when needing power (uphill and pulling away). If I cannot get if moving freely then will have to look to see if can get hold of parts or second hand replacement (around £80 to £130).
