I have a simple philosophy when it comes to this The driver chooses to accept the licence and in doing so accepts the rules for it - they could choose not to accept the licence If after accepting the rules they choose not too abide by them then they choose to accept any consequences With that said then who cares where they put any sort of cameras etc because it makes no difference to the above The only drivers who do not agree are the ones who think they are above the law and think they know better simple philosophy

Quite so, but it is difficult fighting our selfish nature. Maybe the penalties should be more severe.

Yes it terrible, they quote roads such as the A77 where they have been very successful, and I agree, But what they fail to say is that they only work on the A77 because it is already a dual carriageway, therefore you are able to pass a slow moving truck or even the odd tractor without risk. The A9 with its long stretches of single carriageway will as you say lead to frustration and risk taking. The dual sections will become race tracks and guess what, yep you can still stay below the average speed.
I do not condone speeding and I promote safe driving, but the government will make a bad situation worse. Unless you are a regular user of this particular road you may not fully understand the stupidity of the proposal.

I live in North Wales, on the Coast rd. One section a dual carriage way, with multiple junctions on it, used to have a National Speed Limit of 70mph.
It was after the fourth accident in 18 months, which necessitated both sides being closed, to allow the Air Ambulance to Land. Due to the severity of injuries. That the speed limit was dropped to 50mph.
The number of sever incidents, reduced from 4 in 18 months, to one over the last four years. And sadly that was the death of a pedestrian late at night. There is no foot paths to use, at the point of the incidence, and the Police still do not know what the pedestrian was doing there.
So personally I'd like to see speed limits remain as they are. But Penalties massively increased. With a minimum fine of £300 for going 10mph over the limit, as well as 6 points on the licence. going up to £500 and a 6 month ban and mandatory re-test for 20mph over.
All revenue raised, to fund Traffic Police Officers.
Raising the speed limit, to pamper to the idiots who speed on Motorways at 90mph, will just see them going at 110mph, because everyone else is doing 90mph. And we will see even more carnage on our roads, not less.
Oh and Driving Tests in Germany are a lot tougher than the simple two part on in the UK. And the Auto Bahns are a lot heavier and tougher policed than our Motorways.
