Hi
I am a lady tower and have been towing for 5 years now. The towing itself I find a doddle. I have towed in UK and France. My hubby could tow legally but isnt a natural driver and the whole thought makes him nervous, so he just doesn't tow.
What I have started doing is going off by myself. I suffer from degenerative disc desease, have weak neck and shoulders and suffer from chronic tendonitis in my elbows. I have to say that I struggle turning the jockey wheel. The effort required is a bit too much for my weak arms. Other parts of setting up a caravan can be physically taxing if you are a bit weak to begin with. Winding the legs down, dragging the water barrel etc, even putting the connectors onto the battery I struggle with and my husband (who is not a DIY, physical type) makes it look easy by comparison to how much effort I need to put in.
BUT
I find ways of doing it that get around it. Like Having a waste water container on wheels and slightly smaller than normal, pacing myself, and I ask for help with the jockey wheel from any one who looks vaguely able onsite. I am not shy about it and have had to be persuasive when some individuals are not willing to be helpful.
Other tips:Fresh water barrel on wheels, put your toilet waste on top of your waste water wheely to take it to be emptied (and don't wait until it is too full or it will be too heavy to lift), use a hammer gently to secure battery connectors if they are very stiff, ensure greased leg winders....
If I had the money I would get a motor mover but I ask for help on arrival onsite to guide me into place. I am stubborn and could ask for more help, but I like to do it myself.
Generally people who help me are happy to help but they have been good at not taking over!
So, yes, it is a bit physical but it will not stop me from escaping in my van.
