To be honest it was so bad a non caravannner would look at it and say it didn't even look right let alone safe.
As you say they were going slowly which I recon would be due to the way the oufit was handling when going above 40.

You'll be surprised how many people don't weigh their nose before setting off. Of course on this occasion it sounds like you weren't talking about 5-10 kilos out. Shame your you couldn't have got a photo.

It's that time of year isn't it. Once a year towers and newbies who haven't taken care to look into towing.
Since school finished at the end of June we have been on the M74/M6 ... M90/A90 etc etc and seen lots of outfits with no mirrors, nose up, nose down and one particularly scary Swift Challenger which was literally all over the road every time something (even just solo cars) overtook it. Hitting the M8/M77/A77 on Saturday so plenty more to be seen!
Mind you we've seen plenty of scary solo drivers too!

I once watched someone arrive on a campsite, and when they unhitched the caravan the nose immediately jumped in the air and the back of the caravan sat firmly on the ground. They had to lean hard on the hitch to get it level again so they could move it.

Wasn't there another thread on here recently which talked about a towbar fitted to Kia being too low or something? It could be a problem unique to Kias although the owners must be aware if it is that noticeable.

I thought the same Bob, I know you can get a plate to change the height but both the ones I saw today were scary! To get that low in both car and caravan must have had some heavy weight in the boot and to much noseweight on the van to the extreme.
Unless the weight in the car was pulling the van down..who know's..
It was weird they were on the same road and not much distance between them and both vehicles were the same model and silver in colour??

You can, but except on a very small number of cars (a couple of the Land Rovers), it is illegal.

As a professional driver I see this just about every day or caravans coming screaming past in the outside lane. Also seen many an accident involving caravans, I often wonder if it should not be made compulsory for a separate caravan towing test to be introduced.
Would it make any difference? Everybody passes a test to drive a car, but you still see plenty of stupid drivers on the road.

I have a 63 plate Kia Sportage and have recently posted about the same problem. My nose weight is exactly right at 75 kg, but the back of the car sags significantly when hitched to the caravan. The company who fitted my towbar told me they had had loads of sportage owners complaining.Kia say they are unaware of a problem, my Kia dealer said I should fit spring assistors, which I have done. This seems to have solved the problem but gives a more "bumpy "ride.

Far quicker to upgrade the rear springs, to heavy duty ones if you intend to keep the vehicle for a while, or ask the dealer to do it for you, they could get them far cheaper than you could
