The new Skoda Octavia Scout 2014 is a more rugged, raised version of the Golf-based Octavia, set to be introduced to the UK this summer.

• Skoda Octavia Scout review

And the wraps have just come off it at the Geneva Motor Show. It follows the same formula as its predecessor, so it’s fitted with plastic cladding and a ride height increased by 33mm.

To go with its new off-road styling the Scout gets a four-wheel-drive system and improved approach and departure angles so it can tackle more challenging terrain compared with the old Scout.

• Skoda Octavia estate review

Underneath the bonnet will be a choice of 2.0 TDI diesel engines or a 1.8-litre TSI turbo petrol. The maximum towing weight is now up by 25 per cent to two tonnes, while a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel and 17-inch alloy wheels are fitted as standard.

“Our new model is a scout in the best sense and offers customers a unique package, comprising a striking off-road look, impressive all-wheel characteristics, plenty of space and modern safety, comfort and engine technologies. The new Octavia Scout sets new standards in the crossover-vehicle segment,” said Dr. Frank Welsch, Skoda member of the board of management for technical development.

Slow morning at the Skoda showroom I guess Bob? If you tell a potential customer that they can safely tow a 2tonne trailer with this car just to get a sale then you need your bum kicking.

When I worked for Skoda dealership I issued too many duel mass flywheels to even consider purchasing one.

Have they made it a lot bigger or something?

Wasnt the kerbweight under 1500kg even in the heaviest models?

Same with the Octavia Estate 4x4. My 2012 has a mass in service of 1,495kg, tow limit of 1,600kg. The 2014 model is a bit bigger, about 50kg lighter with a tow limit of 2,000kg.

So its actually lighter? With the bigger wheels and a few options it maybe similar but still around 1500kg.

The axle limits would be interesting. Would you need half a pallet of bricks in the boot to get the kerbweight upto a 100% match for a 2000kg trailer?

At least its Skoda themselves that are stating the tow weights not me or there would have been about 30 pages by now.
The weights may not match Grampians likings, but they built the car and tested it, so it must be true but to keep things on an even keel keep your van under 1700 KG or Grampian will blow a fuse on his calculator

You can now get a single 4 part system for them at a quarter of the cost of a replacement DMF, now applies to most makes, just changed mine to a single system £320 flywheel clutch release bearing and bolts plus £120 to fit, dealer wanted £860 for a DMF plus fitting on top

Can't wait to get rid of my Tiguan and get back to a Skoda!

The most dissappointing car I have ever owned .... and the dealer (not far from you Jeff) is a joke.

I'll be back to a Yeti or a Scout soon.

When you own a massive 4x4 when solo, how long does it take you to find a parking space on the street or any car park, around 70% of owners who tow, only bought them because they are scared of getting stuck on a bit of wet grass, when a saloon could tow their vans, on average the van is used 4 to 5 times a year, and most don't have a second vehicle, so they are stuck with the 4x4 that on average costs more to run and own.
Manufacturers are now waking up to this and like Skoda and a few others, are now producing sensible car like 4x4s

Blow a fuse?   I would have you know that my calculator uses valves

I do wish Ford had made a Mondeo Estate with 4x4. They make the very early model with a 4x4 option. But soon phased it out.

Tempted to look for one of those in mint condition when this car dies.

I was almost tempted to buy an Octavia estate though.. Shh keep that a secret.

i had a 10 plate scout loved it,but it could not tow my new 1800 kgs caravan which requires a nose weight of 126 kgs,as for getting stuck on wet grass, use hard standing pitches all the time, had to buy a land cruiser tow safely, it is expensive to own, so what

We use our V8 Discovery daily, we tow/carry goods most weeks and we bought it specifically for the towing and carrying capacity.

Not all 4X4 owners are like the stereotypes you mention, many need that type of vehicle for a reason.

That's the reason I got the Octavia 4x4, the wife finds it easy to park in town, good for work use, solo (up to 64mpg), towing and when on a muddy 5 site it gets you off and gets you about on snow covered roads. Grip will be better in a few weeks, when I get a set of Vredestein Quatrac 3 all season tyres put on.
