Hi all, question posed
We need to change our car in October and have a caravan to pull, so got to take that into account. I know all about the weights and measures etc 85 % guideline the lot, so now quoting this and that. I would like sensible reviews based on the following given information.
1. Caravan max weight 1300 Kgs (adria) - Single axle 6 berth
2. Normal family is 2 adults, 1 child, 1 teenager, 1 medium sized dog.
3. based on above would like estate or large hatch back. to carry normal assortment of items ie Caravan poles awning, etc. must have at least 75 Kgs nose weight on hitch.
4. Needs to be economical and comfy for Solo journey,as caravan sits for 9 months of the yr!!!!!.
5. Diesel Preferable and above 1.7 Ltr.
6. Cost not a major factor at present but nothing silly like Porsche Cayenne!!.
7. passed test in 1986 so no problems there.
8. What i dont understand and trying to find out is whether these so called ECO engines are strong enough to tow caravans 1.8Ltr and above.
9. Dont intend to tow abroad generally a ferw hundred miles in the UK is normal.
10. Previous and current tow vehicles with the same van are 1. Ford Focus II 2.0 TDCI Estate Zetec, 2. Volvo V70 Estate 2.0 Ltr, 3rd Vauxhall Antara 2.2Ltr 4x4.
11. Have got in mind, Astra Sports tourer, Insignia Sport tourer, Zafira , Ford Smax, Ford Focus.
12. Of previous cars i would say the antara tows the best, closely followed by the Ford Focus, then the Volvo. (same engine as the focus but approx 500 kgs heavier) checked weightbridge.
So tell me what you think.
