Hello Everyone
Looking for some advice towing from just outside Glasgow to Burnham on Sea.
We will be travelling with 4 children & 2 adults, looking for the best way to do this and if anyone else has made this trip and how long it took them.
We are due to travel 4th July and are thinking of travelling from Glasgow about 10pm and hoping to get to Burnham sometime late morning.
If anyone has any tips & advice we would be most gratefull. This will be our longest distance ever we have made, and maybe our last.

Take plenty of cans of Red Bull. The cheaper supermarket brands work just as well though.

We did Northumberland to Watchet (Doniford Bay) just a few weeks ago...

So my advice is travel over night. Many say get past or at least as near to Bristol as possible before the rush hour starts, less headache then than being at the beginning of the standing traffic.

I have a hunch too, that there are over night closures on the M5 some where around the Strensham services area...

We were planning to have a stop there when we went, but ended up having to travel further on to the next MSA...

Also, we kept the kids up though the day to make sure they possibly slept on the way down.

Certainly kept the whinging to a minimum that day / night!

Overnight travel is the best way to go,have plenty of breaks, (120 miles approx') even if for just ten minutes,also share the driving if possible,it's all motorways so can be boring and sleep inducing,but anyone with limited experience of towing will be ok on them,take a flask of coffee etc,if the children don't sleep then keep them entertained,nothing like children getting bored,they fall out and distract you, (are we there yet) then you have the same on the return journey,so will probably need another holiday to recover,enjoy your holiday and let us know how you fare.

Check Traffic England for scheduled roadworks etc, and again (for other incidents and possible delays/diversions) just before you leave.

We had a dvd player for the car and a couple of the kids favourite films.
Don't forget if you go overnight the kids will be wide awake the next day and by the afternoon you will need a kip.

Travelling at that time will be fine. You should be way past Birmingham before the early morning rush hour. Definitely stop every two hours as the motorway at night becomes very monotonous.

Thank you everyone, will use all the advice given & take plenty of coffee & red bull for us & games and gadgets for the 4 boys.
We make sure we take turns driving and have plenty of stops.
We think it may take us between 10-12 hours, kids will be full of life and fun when we get there, and by the time we set up both of us will be knackered.

If you've not been to Burnham before,be careful of the mud flats,they can be very dangerous,there is a pleaure park at Brean sands(Berrow)with a swimming pool and funfair rides etc,also a Pontins that you can buy daily tickets,I.m sure you will find out about the many places to visit,I love the whole of Somerset and go regularly,so I'm certain you will have a good time there.

Sounds daft, but you'll have a sugar crash and feel lousy shortly after having a drink if you haven't eaten.

Or better still, stop somewhere overnight and arrive without being exhausted the next day.
450 miles non-stop towing a caravan is a long way!

Glasgow to the south coast should be possible in the time you allow but for the price of a Premier inn why not break the journey and arrive fresh.. The overnight run will get you there but most likely shattered and relying on coffee and red bull isn't the safest.
The tips about sharing the driving and regular stops whether or not you need them are great advice.
My preference would have been for a slightly longer stop somewhere and a snooze of about an hour or so. Be careful with the 2 hour parking restriction.
We drive from Inversneckie to Cornwall or the channel ports but it's too far. We use premier inn. Usually around Preston or Warrington.
We once drove from St Ives all the way home and I will never do it again or put my family through that. It just worked out that way as a result of a bad plan that went wrong.

If you go down on a Saturday, and miss Birminghams rush hour, its plain sailing, due to there being 70% less HGVs on the road, if coming back on a week day try to get to Birmingham for lunchtime then your not stuck for long periods unless there is an accident somewhere north bound
