Im thinking later this year of buying a jeep of some name.
The only thing im worried about is,some one told me they are very expensive to buy parts for.
Ive had a terrano and a shogun and found part prices were, how can i say "Not bad" however, has any of you good people who have one or, had one found the parts expensive ?
And have a very happy new year..
I've been out of the trade for a few years now but I found Jeep parts to be very expensive with few suppliers in the aftermarket.

Strange the way I read it is that Fiat own the bulk of Chryslers assets and can have a stake up to 35% and the Auto Workers Union own 55% with the US and Canadian goverments getting 10% between them.

I had an 07 Cherokee up until about 18 months ago.
Brilliant tow vehicle, I towed trailers with mini diggers on and vans no sweat.
but
the vehicle tax was £600 pa and although I didn't have so much go wrong with it what little I had was expensive. the recall which affected the tow bar came just after I had parted with mine, so look out for that.
Inside was a bit industrial and not so much storage space that you may used to with Terrano and Shogun.

Below is part of the agreement, you were correct they can hold 35% of the equity,
" the Under the terms approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York and various regulatory and antitrust regulators, the company formerly known as Chrysler LLC today formally sold substantially all of its assets, without certain debts and liabilities, to a new company that will operate as Chrysler Group LLC. Chrysler Group in turn issued to a subsidiary of Fiat a 20 percent equity interest on a fully diluted basis in the new company. Fiat has also entered into a series of agreements necessary to transfer certain technology, platforms and powertrains to the new Chrysler. Fiat’s equity interest will increase in increments by up to a total of 35 percent in the event that certain milestones mandated by the agreement are achieved, but Fiat cannot obtain a majority stake in Chrysler until all taxpayer funds are repaid.

Our local garage let us take one out for a test drive. I liked the gadgets but the ride was too soft. It seemed to roll about a bit too much for our liking.
I had a jeep compass. I changed it for my current outlander. It was quick, handled well and towed my bailey ranger 550/6 extremely well. I changed it though because the warranty ran out and I had already had a number of silly problems fixed under warranty. However I did like it. The tax was £210/year. One thing I fixed myself was to change the suspension arm because at 3 years old there was play in the ball joint. The whole arm including rubber bushes and ball joint only cost £48. It was a simple job to do. The compass though would return 45 mpg round town and 28mpg towing unlike my outlander which does 36 round town and 25 towing.
My colleague had a 2.4 petrol jeep Cherokee. It was slow and the body roll was bad, it also only did 19mpg.

getting all different answers me thinks ?
Hi Jeff
If you are currently towing with a Tiguan then consider a jeep compass or patriot. If you choose a 2.2 CRD limited 4x4. It would have a Mercedes C220 engine in it which in my mind is far better than the engine in my outlander. The 2.2 CRD limited 4x4 is the only compass with the capability to tow though.
However if you currently tow with a Tiguan I am guessing you are looking for a newer jeep ? They stopped making the compass in 2014 hoping compass customers would go for the new Cherokee or the smaller renegade which is tiny but based on the fiat 500.
If you are looking for a pre 2014 car though the compass would be a bargain with full leather interior etc.
