Hinot sure if this is correct section,but here goes,am after some advice from any technicians,if any on here,got a 04 santa fe crdi.it cut out on me,would not start,been in garage,who have tested a few things,they saying it is either high pressure fuel pump,or injectors,and want to take injectors off and send away,but will cost 400 to just get them checked,what are the possibilities of all injectors just failing at once?they then say,even if i was to replace injectors,it may not cure the problems it could also be pump,which again would cost an arm and leg.
is there any way of checking these things without removing?and if i was to replace with used,they say they would then need re-programming,how easy is that?
I don't want to scrap the car,as it is superb,but not worth putting £2G into it,any help would be good,thanks

if it turns over but wont fire up, its an injector, I don't know if you can plug a fault reader in to find out what one it is, on your model, but if you can , you can get a replacement from ebay at a fraction of the cost,
it could also be the immobiliser.
ask the garage to pug in a fault reader

no,just my local garage,nearest dealer is 60 miles away.They said they put on computer,and all it said was low fuel pressure

do you know if i would have to get a used injector programmed into the car?

If its saying low fuel pressure then its probably one of the two valves in the injection rail(common rail),rather than an injector...it needs to be plugged in to a proper diagnostic reader not a cheap eBay thing you don't have to take it to the Hyundai Steelers just a good independent with correct software,this should be the first port of call before condemning the injectors or the pump... It could still be this but you need a definitive answer first..

You need correct software to diagnose & this may only be at Hyundai garage. If this is the case then this should be cheapest way of finding specific fault.

Please, Please , please, if not already done so try a fuel filter first. I had the same problem, diagnosed as low fuel pressure, recommended new pump, had filter changed, been great ever since.

+1. I did 27 years in the motor-trade, replacing the filters before diagnosing is something you pick up after all that time!

cant see all injectors failing at once?
and so should start up. Try filters etc before laying out that cost.

Absolutely agree.
About 3 years ago I tried to save money by finding a local garage do my servicing then 3 weeks later a dashboard message came up saying 'System Service Required'. I took the car back to which they connected up their diagnostic software and according to the engineer it was a faulty oil pump. They wanted £236 plus VAT to undertake the task so I had a second opinion from a Volvo dealer which cost £57 to connect the dedicated diagnostic software to identify the fault. It turned out that too much oil had been added to the sump which luckily they part drained it free of charge. In the long term it could have cost much more and still not solved the problem so my advice would be to approach a Hyundai dealer with the problem as they should be able to detect the underlying cause.

As Softguy and mattlad, change the fuel filter before you do anything.
When my sorento stopped, the garage wanted £800 to fit a new fuel tank and filter. (they claimed the Paint?????? was coming off the inside ?? of the fuel tank and blocking the filter
i said NO just fit a new filter, when i picked it up i got a bill for £150 for the filter change, ouch
The car ran perfectly for another 2 years until i sold it in excellent running order.
The tank as far as i know was not painted, but galvanised.

Exactly as above it maybe a blocked filter or pickup, seen several cases of the little carrboard seal from injector cleaning bottles stuck to the pickup pipe in a tank.

It doesnt cost £400 to test the injectors, your halfway to getting them reconditioned at that price.

A new filter and a direct feed to eliminate the tank or supply being restricted.

Then a leakoff test on the injectors which is a quick and easy job easily done inside an hour.

GULP! A filter usually costs less than 15 quid and is a ten minute job to fit. Thought it was only BMW dealers that were sharks.

hyundai and kia do not like supermarket diesel,morrisons in perticular. the bio content clogs the filter.it will show up on diagnostics as low fuel pressure.

As said, start at the 'cheap / easy' end - change the filter.

If no luck, then it maybe a garage job...

But Sorrento fuel tank lining coming away? I've heard the same....

I don't know much if anything about your car, but I would also change the fuel filter first and I'd be tempted to fill the fuel chamber with Forté injector cleaner while I was at it. Check to see if this is acceptable on your car first.

As for hard to start, again my first thoughts would be to change or check the glow plugs.

Its been cold lately any water in the filter will have frozen
