For our Mitsubishi Shogun, the renewal premium is nearly £900. Tried the Caravan Club, not much better. Any recommendations?

Try LV ours was a lot cheaper going to them from the CC who wanted a silly amount.

Be prepared to waste a morning on this. Try all the comparison sites, go compare, compare the market etc. Then try the likes of Saga & Direct Line. All will do online quotes. Clear your browser cookies between quotes so the whole industry doesn't know what you are doing.

Does your bank do insurance? Nationwide are quite competitive. I found them the cheapest but stayed with Saga as they matched N/W's quote. I know it's tedious but it has to be done or they will rob you blind.

We are with the CC but the policy is LV.There was an increase because insurance premium tax increased again.Not massive though.
If you are over 50 try Saga or RIAS,they are pretty good, i have my car with Saga,wifes is the one with LV.

I've just done insurance quotes for our car. Caravan Club quote was £495 for cover through Aviva so I tried Aviva themselves and was quoted over £200 less. The two policies offered slightly different levels of cover, the CC policy included a lot of foreign cover that I would not use so I added foreign cover and a few other extras to the Aviva quote and still saved over £100 (and I also got cashback through Top Cashback).

Clear the cookies on your computer and try the comparison sites then try Aviva who are not on the comparison sites. If you use a cashback website you can sometimes get cash just for getting a quote. I found a huge variation in quotes with the worst one being nearly £4000!

Phone them and demand an explanation.
Don't accept the usual stuff about rising costs across the industry, etc.
Providing you have had no claims this seems well outside a normal rise.
Perhaps they don't want your business.

Always shop around, even try the AA or RAC,
The CC will be making money off you, so always go direct to save.

My public hire insurance is only £625 for my taxi, so a vehicle that does less miles on a private policy should be a lot less

Thanks, both Confused.com and Gocompare have come out with Co-op as the cheapest, both less than £600. Saga and Rias no good and LV refused! (and we have our house insured with them).

We are insured with Aviva via Octogon now, will be on the phone to them tomorrow.

I would do an online quote with Aviva themselves (via Top Cashback) so that if you take the policy out you can receive the £55 cashback and save paying Octogon for their services. Aviva were very easy to deal with and they do not consider a tow bar to be a modification unlike some of the other companies.

We have been with Saga a few years and until this last time the have always come down and matched other like for like quotes.This time they would not budge.Last year was £430 went with Direct Line exact like for like £325,saving £100.Have now just changed wife car to them and saved £56
