Hey guys new to the forum so just a quick intro, I'm ben I've found the site hopefully looking for assistance with my towbar

I've fitted the brink detachable towbar to my Passat b6 estate sport.

I'm having difficulty getting the bumper plate to sit flush with the bumper. Can anyone offer any assistance or show my their fitting.

Please see the attached photos to show issue.

If anyone can offer help I can email photos in a PM.

issue seems to mainly be on the shorter sides

Hope someone can help and I look forward to joining in with discussions and helping where I can.

I'm an electrical engineer and have carried out many repairs on both my car and folding camper so feel free to ask and I'll assist if possible

I didn't think you could fit a bumper plate to a detachable towbar. Is this the type of bumper plate you are reffing to or something else?

Hey sorry for the confusion, it's a cover which clips into the cutout in the bumper when the towbar isn't fitted

Easiest way is to use "Members Only" button (top right corner of this page), then select "Manage Your Image Gallery" for instructions.

Hello, I've uploaded some photos to my profile so hopefully you guys can see. Does anyone have a similar towbar fitted to their car?

Is it actually making contact with the towbar bracket or the electrics?

If it's the towbar bracket itself then your only option is to put up with it or swap to a different brand that wont hinder the cover.

How secure is it? If it pulls free easily I would add something to stop it falling off completely.

From the side see what sticks out the most, the towbar bracket or the electrics.

I will look into your suggestions but being from the same manufacturer I'd assume that it should all fit together correctly

Same manufacturer? Who Brink? or VW?

VW dont make towbars, Another towbar manufacturer will have a slightly different design, which may fit.

Is the sport bumper slightly different to the standard one?

BRink was the manufacturer of the entire kit, and not that I'm aware I think the bumper is the same across models , I will have to check the brackets later on but I know for sure the electrics are high enough out the way.

You say that you have fitted the Brink detachable towbar yourself in which case I take it that the bumper cut was also undertaken by yourself as well?
If so, did you use a template to make the cut in order for the aperture to be the correct dimensions?

HI yeah bunper cut was done by me, I've contacted the supplier who have said even though the dimensions that I've cut it too are exact I may infact have to remove More on the edges with a file.

Just wanting to check if this is a common issue of the hatch fitting poorly or if it is a simple case of slightly enlarging the hole

In that case I would get an old piece of thin cardboard and cut out the same size aperture that you cut out in the bumper and see how the cover fits in relation to it. All you are doing is an exact copy (a template) of it and any alterations can be done on the cardboard till the cover fits perfectly. Do the alterations on the cardboard till the two parts marry up then cut the bumper aperture to the template. That will leave you with a profesional job without any mistakes being made on the car bumper. It's much cheaper to cut another piece of cardboard than it is to replace the whole plastic bumper through errors that can easily be avoided.
Reply with the results when you have completed the task to see if the advice was beneficial or not.

I'll have a go with your suggestion. However as the bumper is curved it may be difficult
