Hi guys ....planning on changing my towcar in next few weeks..I have a 2011 insignia 2.0 Sri cdti...it's never had any problems pulling our challenger540...fancy a suv.. I've had a 07 xtrail 2.2 but wasn't as good as insignia ..Ford Kuga or a Mazda CX5 is our choice ..any help would be great..thanks
Hi tomc61uk
According to Practical Caravan website the towball limit on the Mazda is 88kg as opposed to the Kuga 105kg but apart from that both have a good review.
If you do decide to go for the Kuga go for the AWD model I have spoken to loads of people on site both with the 2WD & the AWD all say the Kuga tows superb.
I towed my Swift Charisma from West Yorks to Somerset last Aug on half a tank of diesel & a round trip solo to Seahouses a couple of weeks ago returned 49.8 mpg according to the trip computer
Good luck in your search
Graham
Thanks for reply Graham yes the Kuga does sound better all round .Mazda does look a nice car but Ford engine have proved in past to be reliable ..thanks for your help
I am very fickle when it comes to cars, I have no real favourite, but I currently have a 65 plate Ford Kuga, 2.0 180bhp, Titanium X, Auto, and I can confirm it is an excellent towcar.
Have done the length of France into Spain towing our van and it was the best towing experience I have had so far.
Thanks for replies Graham and Mike ..
Wasn't quite sure if I should pursue an auto ,havnt seen many up our neck of the woods ..Will check out AutoTrader..thanks again
If you do decide on a Kuga auto (Powershift) 63-64 plate, check that the gearbox has had the fluid and filter changed. It should be done every 3 years or 37500 miles, and it is not part of the standard service. Most problems with the auto box appear to occur if this has been missed.
Getting a Kuga AWD in the next few weeks, (on a NHS lease scheme).
Test drove both the Kuga and the CX5...
Actually would have gone for the CX5, as it seemed more 'refined' compared to the Kuga, but by the time came round to ordering, they had been removed from the lease choice list...
Queried it, and was told they had ran out of the allocated amount!
