Hi All, I'm thinking about buying a 2016 Kia Sportage 2.0 KX-3 CRDi Auto. All seems fine, but it has a space saver spare tyre. I'm concerned that this may be a problem if I get a flat while towing. Will it be safe? Many thanks.
Safe, yes. as long as you stick to the instructions given in the handbook. it is recommended that you drive straight to a tyre company and get it fixed or replaced.
My sportage (2013) came with a full size wheel I was surprised that they have gone back to space saver. My Insignia came originally with a space saver but I replaced it with a full size wheel because of the concern I had with towing.
------------- Just saying
If all is not lost where is it then?
Thanks Acornis, The dealer said he didn't really know if it would be ok, but he also suggested carrying a full size wheel. Thank you, food for thought.
Space saver spares are a nightmare. Still not convinced towing with one is wise or legal (never seen a definitive answer from anyone truly qualified to comment!)
My Citroen has one, can't even put the punctured full size wheel back into the spare storage space, too big, has to go in boot! - stupid or what! Certainly no option to carry full size wheel as spare unless you want to keep it loose in boot and waste a large amount of boot space!
SS spares (and 'goo' repair kits are even worse!!!!) are so handicapped/restricted as to be barely fit for purpose! How did we ever let ourselves be fobbed off with them!
Why don't you try and get hold of a full size spare and like I said before keep it in the caravan then it's there if you are towing and under normal day to day you've got your spacesaver already in the car.

How much does a full size wheel and tyre weigh?
That must eat into your payload by some significant amount.
Thanks everyone. I took a look at the space saver today, it's a substantial tyre on a 19" wheel. I hope I'll never need it, but I'll buy one of the tyre repair cans just in case.
