Hi All
I have been offered a caravan that is hard to refuse.
The van is 89% match for my car. I have towed for many year but always been around 85%.i know 85% is only a guide. So would like to know what people tow and at what percentage they would advise.
Many Thanks
I've towed at about 93% in the past with a Ford Focus 1.6 diesel estate but I wouldn't like to go much more than that to be quite frank even though I have 14 years towing experience. If you are an experience tower like you say I wouldn't be too concerned about 89% providing that the towcar has the sufficient power to tow the caravan.

Mine is at 88% using handbook weight, but the C&MC matching service says 93%. Get a very stable tow with 75kg noseweight.
I done the match through tow safe website, many thanks for your reply and information.
Hi philip 22, I to drive a 2.0 AWD (year 2014) Korando and the information that I have is taken from this site.
https://www.car.info/en-se/ssangyong/korando/korando-5-door-20-e-xdi-awd-6716007/specs
The site also has a breakdown of the weights,
Weight
Curb Weight 1747 – 1767 kg
Gross Weight 2260 kg
Max Trailer Load, braked 12% 2000 kg
Max Trailer Load, unbraked 750 kg
Cargo Capacity 493 – 590 kg
As you can see there is not one of them that states 1500 Kg. I would be interested to know where you got the information from as I only have the information that has come from this site.Barry
Hi unblue
Based on the information you have provided and these are the figures i was working from, would you tow a caravan with an mptlm of 1560. Which i think is 89.3 %. I thank you for info.
Hi Philip 22 i was working that 85% was 1500kg, but i hope and
know the above information provided by unible is correct
Many thanks
Hi haymat, I am sorry but I can't help you. I am a novice tower having had a caravan for about 3 years. I tow a Lunar Cosmos 554 with the Korando which is well within the limits at 1.335 kg mtplm. Sorry that I can't help but I will say that if you feel comfortable towing it then go for it. The Korando 2 0 AWD (manual) diesel that I tow with is certainly capable of towing it. It might be a little over the 85% unwritten rule on here but if you feel comfortable towing then go for it.
I used to tow at 87%, a single axle, with a Mitsubishi Outlander and where it was plenty powerful enough to accelerate it never felt that stable to me and was stressful. I never overloaded the caravan and put as much as I could in the car. I tow The same caravan at 68% and it feels rock solid. I know some who tow twin axles at over 100% I think twin axles tow better.

Hi Uniblue I was looking at this website

We had to get a new van in a hurry and found one that was 89%. We have just returned from the Ardèche with new van and everything was fine. If you know the region, you’ll know there are some high winding roads and our car performed wonderfully. Some days we towed for 400 miles and again no worries. If you have experience and are sensible (that applies to all towers) you’ll have no problems.
Thank you all for your replies and experiences you have shared. If more members wish to respond this would be great for all of us.
I have taken on board the information. I am going to ask the seller a family friend if i can tow the caravan i will load as i would normally and see how it goes. Please keep the replies coming.
Regards to All
I saw a small fiat van about the size of an old escort van towing a huge Twin axle caravan today. Both my wife and I exclaimed “now that can’t be right” funny thing was he seemed to be in convoy with a VW transporter van towing a smaller single axle caravan. I followed them for a while and if anything the single axle was whipping from side to side and had it’s rear end skyward. Didn’t look good at all.

I will be happy to post how it goes if the owner allows. We travel to many counties from our North Norfolk home. It is often a discussion my wife and i have what is towing coming in the opposite direction. Twin wheel is more stable than single.I have asked advice for my own situation and i value opinions of other members.
kind regards
