Well today after debating for almost 3 month’s I’ve finally ordered a new company car, and it’s a hybrid.

The savings for the hybrid was that big it didn’t make sense to order another diesel, example

BMW 330E c/c tax At 20% is £940 40% £1883

Audi A6   c/c tax at 20% is £2503 40% £5006

VW Tiguan 2wd c/c tax at 20% £2477 40% £4953

Mondeo Vignale c/c tax at 20% £2100 40% 4200

Volvo S90 c/c tax at 20% £2832 40% £5664

As we have our cars for 4 years the saving to me is between 6 &12k. (I would have ordered the Audi)

So the saving will pay to replace my wife’s car with a 3 year old Ford Kuga which in turn will become our tow car,Obviously I’ll be doing my best to get to and from work on Electric only

Virtually all our company car drivers have ordered the same or another form of hybrid, our directors have ordered the hybrid Volvo’s XC60’s, Previous years have always been diesel cars unfortunately the tax is now horrendous for these cars.

Sounds good. I thought they were doing away with tax benefits for hybrids and only doing them for battery only BEVs. I may be half cocked though as completely out of touch with it all being retired.

Trouble is if there was a mass uptake of hybrid or electric cars there isn’t the infrastructure or capacity in the grid to get them charged.

I don’t know what they will do for freight as they won’t tow a caravan never mind a 40ft trailer.

As usual our elected parasites have gone off half cocked

Hi navver I’ve not heard that and the predictions for the next 3 years is the same so I don’t think their is anything set to change.

Given the choice I think most cc drivers will opt for this, the bik on the bmw is only 12% as opposed to 33% for diesel

Due to the sheer numbers of fleet cars on the road, I think this will have a big impact for caravaners 2nd hand car choice, I’m hoping in 4 years when this car is due up I can’t get back in a company hybrid or electric that will have a good enough capacity and range

Well looks like I’ve got 4 years of charging, I’m intending on doing ghis a work and top up at home, I live 18 miles from work which is usually a bumper to bumper trip the cars battery is 40 miles so hopefully should cost me next to nothing to run.
Just work and back all week and a bit of weekend driving equates to about £50 in fuel each week.

If I can half this that will be a major bonus

Interesting Bessie, my firm gave me a Petrol Kuga back in June, fantastic car but the BIK tax was killing me, as was the Petrol BMW 1 Series before that, as both cars were priced at £30k for the P11D.

So in July the Ford Focus 3 Pot 1.5lt Diesel came on the list, so I went for that, and my tax code has now been adjusted, so I am seeing £100 more in my take home pay as the Focus only comes in at £20k on the P11D.

Got the Focus until April, what I get next is anyone’s guess, although the firm is looking at BEV’s for obvious reasons.

But I think we we will end up with the Focus again, which to be fair is fine, if given the choice though I would go for a BEV as I believe that would reduce my BIK tax to zero, resulting in another £140 extra in my take home pay, what’s not to like.

Can’t tow anything of any real value, no 4x4 capability, limited ground clearance, no load capacity of any use ie a good load of logs, cannot fit my double dog crate, no way can I get a Deer in the back. Limited “bullying” capability when the townies come to the countryside and try and drive around our lanes, but most of all...........The shame and humiliation of being seen driving an electric shopping trolly around Dartmoor! The thought makes me shiver.

My last three company cars, L200 pick up trucks were £55 a month as commercial vehicles, and do far, far more than a Tesla 3 could even imagine.

Mike if I could get a pickup of vw van I’d of got one, unfortunately I can’t have one even though I sell bloody trucks and trailers for a living & my sales yard is like a building site, it’s already ripped the sump off a kuga this year.

The vast majority of cc Drivers drive cars & would welcome a tax free car I know I would, & mike Don’t forget you did have a Mondeo cc once

Oh yes bessie, you are dead right, I forgot about the Mondeo that was forced upon me and restricted my job. A nice car but of no use whatsoever for my job, horses for courses. 👍😀
