Advice please on the most caravan friendly route. We'll be travelling at the end of September from Fforest Fields Caravan site to Lady Margaret's CMC site at Chirk, towing a 7m van.
At the moment I'm considering the A483 to Oswestry before picking up the A5, or the longer (but maybe better for towing?) route taking the A44 to Leominster, then the A49 to Shrewsbury and the A5 from there. We don't mind the extra miles if it's easier driving/towing.
Thank you.

i would be going the a483 also, had a look on google maps street veiw and its what my husband calls " a good motorbiking road" lots of sweeping bends, with decent straight stretches for getting past cars - nice route to take, oh out of interest at lady margarets, if you havent been before, dont go on the pitches to the left of the reception following the trees down the site, no tv, no sun and freezing cold! in the middle or to the right is the better place to be

Thanks for the advice marg6, especially about Lady Margaret's - we haven't been before! Hopefully we'll still get to choose our own pitch under the new regime.

you always do on caravan club sites, its a case of drive around and choose which one then go back to reception and let them know which number your on and get your keys then, another tip! if you go for a walk along the canal make sure you take a torch! even in daytime

Yep, A 483, cracking road - especially now they have by-passed Newtown.

Will we be okay with 2 medium to large dogs, one of which tries to back away from other people on a path or just refuses to move???
Maybe we’d find out whether he can swim!

Speaking as a local.
I would follow the A44 from Crossgates to Rhayader and then north to Caersws, then join the A489 to Newtown and then join the A483 north.
It might be slightly longer but it easier towing along it and it can often by quicker.
