Norhing to do with EV, just typical Express 'ensure the people remain angry at something' approach.
smart cars aren't approved for towing, doesn't stop people fitting a towbar and pulling trailers.

Only right all vehicles pay VED. However the proposal (which can't be binding on a future government) is based on 50% of new car sales being electric by 2025, it was 15% to end of October 2022.
50% can only be reached with a huge drop in prices, or further disincentive to buy none EV cars.
I was in a dealer last week and whilst not the same car, a new petrol vehicle was priced at £35,000, a similarly sized EV equivalent was £53,000.
Maybe the potential increase in fuel duty by 12p a litre from March is part of the nudge towards EVs.

Compulsory ins for cyclists would only line the pockets of wealthy ins companies and their share holders and unless bikes had to be registered and have no plates, almost impossible to enforce and would cost much more to set up than the revenue it would generate.

Not really. It’s basically the Daily Mail scare mongering with anti EV propaganda. The article should read “if you car is not type-approved for towing, don’t tow with it “. The end…
I only put this on for people to read and thought it would be interesting for some. Obviously you have not read it properly as you say it is the daily mails are scare mongering. Yet it plainly says that it is from the Express.

They may be after 50% of new sales to be EVs by 2025, but what percentage of car sales are of new cars? In my view, by far the majority of people buy used, and quite a few (like me) buy older used vehicles. Punitive measures won't make people buy what they can't afford, so what is the answer? Before people like me can afford to buy EVs, prices will have to fall by about 90% and I really can't see that happening.
------------- Best Regards,
Colin
