Well just got back from my week in the lake district and week in scotland. We travelled over 1500 miles a good majority of these towing. The Mondeo drove well and was very stable travelling over both motorway and country lanes. Towing our Bailey the car returned figures of almost 32 miles to the gallon (to my hubbys delight). We can only praise the car and the only thing which you may consider a downside is that we could not use 6th gear. However at times coming home on the A1 if you were not careful we soon found ourselves exceding the speed limit All my husband says is now its so easy he wants me to take a towing course Hope this helps some people who wish to consider the mondeo st 2.2.
Glad you had no problems, were off to Dartmoor soon with our Mondeo ST 2.2 TDCI Hatchback and caravan, well impressed with the Torque the car produces, i now know plenty of people towing with this car and they all say it's superb!
am about to get a tow bar fitted to my mondeo st, but i have been told it will make a mess of my rear bumper. do they cut big holes in it? Also.whitch one did you get fitted, cheers
Hi nornorm we had the witter tow bar fitted. With detachable tow ball and they only had to cut the rear bumper a small amount which is not noticeable hope this helps. june
thanks for letting me know about your tow bar, that makes me feel a lot better! i was looking at the same one myself, i will now go a head now and buy one. In two weeks time i will be towing my caravan with my ST, let you know how i got on.
I had the Witter fixed F108 towbar fitted to my ST 2.2 hatchback, no visible cuts in the rear of the bumper just two slots in the undertray going a short distance into the underside of the bumper where the undertray overlaps. See link and look for model and year: http://www.witter-towbars.co.uk/towbars/price_list.aspx you can download a PDF of the towbar showing the cuts involved.
Car pulls like a dream by the way, very stable loads of torque.
