 just been reading  about your 1.6 picasso i too have same car and it is a 07 reg which yes the max it tows is 1300kg not 900 this is because they have improved engine and i pulled a bailey ranger 550/6 empty weghing about 1090kg and yes you hit a hill and you had to work the gears but yes got there ok , so my advice is ring dealer  

Sparky Skatty has an 02 Picasso which is considerably lighter than yours and has a max tow of just 900 kg as a result.
