Hi snowy, i might have been the one that mentioned that we just had our car converted to LPG for £1200. We have a V6 2.5 mitsubishi galant. There is a polish guy that does the conversion in south wales. He is a very nice chap called Andrew, and is quite helpful if you want to ask any questions. He will convert a 4 cylinder fuel injection car for £1000.

We have not had a problem with our conversion and we are getting about the same mileage as we did on petrol. There is also no difference on performence, that we have noticed, and we are paying 50p a litre here in bristol.

We also have our caravan in North Devon and it costs us about £10 to get there. We worked out that the conversion would pay for its self with in a year. But the way we looked at it was, that we could no longer afford to run the car on petrol, so to have it converted was much cheaper than buying another car. so we are not really concerned about making the money back. No one ever says ' you wont make your money back ' when you buy a car and lose a couple of grand over a few years.

We thought about it for about 9 months and now wish we had done it sooner, there are now plenty of garages selling LPG, when we are going on a journey that i dont know the area, I look up the garges in the area, and then find it on the sat nav if we need one.

I am happy to pass on Andrews details if you would like them, and he's after sales service is very good also.

Presumably you got the correct certificates for the insurance company included within the conversion price?  Did your road tax costs drop?

Yes I would love his details, my emails is snowy747 at btinternet.com.  Change the At for the squiggly symbol.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes i did get all the correct certs, also rang the insurance company and the insurance did not change, but had to sent a copy of the cert.

OH went to the local DVLA office in Bristol with the cert, and the log book for the car, but they did not want to know, as the car is a 1999 model, so no reduction in the car tax. I think it is only reduced by a small amount anyway.

Snowy i will send the details to your email addy. If you are ever up near Bristol , I am more that happy to meet with you and show you the conversion, and what a tidy job it is.

Forgot to say, Andrew did the conversion in a day, and lent us a car so we did not have to hang around all day. Took it over to him in South Wales just outside of Cardiff, at 8.30am & picked it up at 6.00pm Very pleased with the job, and service.

The reduction in road fund licence currently is a measly £10. But £10 is £10.....................

Yes I have just been looking at that!  £10 against RFL of £415 then £430 is diddly squat though.  It is gonna have to be a pre March 2001 vehicle methinks.

what conversion did you guys do, a polish stag switch type or the Italian automatic type.
I ask cos i am going to convert my hyundai santa fe 4x4 to lpg in jan next yr.
The polish conversion costing £800 and the italian at £1,400.
but been told that the polish 1 is no good. looked at net and cant realy see why the guy says that.
Also thought that as the polish 1 is a switch type i can run on petrol at times to save soft valve that honest fred says about.

The polish systems are fine. I'm conversant with AG centrum and Stag systems and they both offer value for money.

Something like 25% of vehicles in Poland are on LPG so they know their beans. Like anything the Poles get a bad rap and probably just down to a select few who offer poor conversions. Nothing to do with the brand, more the install.

From you're prices I'm assuming this is a fitted price.

Any system can be config'd to switch back to petrol and some are programmed to switch back under load to reduce valve seat recession or at least that's what many installers tell the customer when in reality they have installed either an underpowered system that can't supply enough fuel under load or they can't get it mapped correctly.

The trouble with some of the replies on this thread is that they are from people who have never had an lpg conversion and know nothing and yet they still give the benefit of their 'wisdom'.  I had my renault clio converted by mint lpg.   It cost £800 and in the 20,000 miles since I have had no problems.  I get 32 mpg instead of 40 mpg with petrol but lpg is only 70.9p per litre in my local petrol station.

I find it amazing that one reply claimed that you only get half the mpg.  Beyond belief.

The only regret I have is that I didn't get it done sooner.

Couldnt detect any reduction in mpg when he had ours done. Very slight reduction in acceleration, that was all.

There has to be a reduction because a litre of lpg contains less energy than a litre of petrol.

All I'm saying is that it was very slight, not worth considering because it could hardly be felt.

The trip computer seems to give innacurate readings of mpg when using lpg.  It seems to give a reading that resembles that of using petrol, but when measuring it accurately by filling the gas tank and reading milage it gives a different true mpg.

Still means cheap motoring.
