the ones with a resistor in will only work for a short period, until your ECU figues it out,
basically it replaces the air inlet temperature sensor and convinces the ECU the ambient temerature is lower than it is, it then lets more air and fuel through, and advances the timing slightly, resulting in more power and increased fuel consumption.

I had a friend who bought one, open the little box and its 1 2p resistor with a couple of fly leads!

as I said, over time the ECU will figure it out, and either loose power, or it will give a fault signal.

Thanks, It's the extra HP im after. I'm convinced that the government will up the tax on LPG if it gets popular, that is what happened with diesel in the 80's :( I'm just cynical :)

Missed the point here, this is not lpg to replace diesel, but used as a catalyst alongside diesel and is supposed to improve torque and mpg by burning more of the diesel injected each cycle.

Anyone has this conversion fitted?

As I've already said in my first post in this thread, I would be very wary of buying a 'powerbox' off eBay.

However, if you're prepared to invest some money, there are genuine and legitimate ways of increasing your bhp and torque, and there are genuine 'powerboxes' out there too, but probably not on eBay!!

As I've also already said, there are numerous main dealers who are re-mapping ECUs at their customers' requests, before the new car even leaves the forecourt. I don't think they would be doing this if it was going to cause future problems!

I'll ask at my local dealer to see if they would remap the ecu, or try and find someone that will do it as it sounds like a better option.

The Sorento UK Forum has a load of guys who have fitted Powerboxes to their Sorentos, although this is partly because one of the main guys there, in Southern Ireland, is a distributor for them. But they all swear by them, and that's people who actually have one fitted to THEIR car.

Every time this subject is raised in forums like this, there are always loads of folk crawling out of the woodwork telling horrendous stories. The common denominator of these stories is always the same, they've read about it, a friend of their uncle's granny had his car blow up after tuning it, etc etc etc. Never actual, personal experience!!!

Personally, I would always go down the re-map road, but as I've said, there are plenty guys on the Sorento UK Forum who have Powerboxes fitted. One other thing you must remember to do, if you've any sense, and that's tell your insurance company!!

The 2 big companies involved in re-mapping are Superchips, and Angel Tuning, but there are plenty of others around. Google those 2 and you'll get plenty info.

never thought about the insurance, I'd rather have a box to be honest, I could then take it off when I sell or take it in for a service just in case it invalidates teh warranty.

Thanks so much for the input.

And when they bump your premium up ask yourself if the money you spent on the remap was worth it
