We tow with an x-trail excellent tow car & good on fuel, but I have had a problem with it & we are going to get a Rav 4 petrol, Mondeo's are excellent cars and unfortunately you have had a raw deal, but don't let it put you off the mondy. We have used a mondy as a tow car and I think they are great, I keep telling OH I want another one.
X Trail - It is to do with not allowing the turbo to stop spinning before turning off the engine etc apparently. You should not thrash them at the beginning or end of the journey to prolong the lifespan and it is documented in the manual I believe. However most people assume with modern turbos that isn't the case and hence a lot of them have been trashed.
Add in Renault build quality = grand catastrophe! The Quashqai forum doesn't report much better with gear box failures within 1000 miles, leaks, squeaks and rattles.
Alan you are right, the old ones were the best, anything post 2000 odd forget it.
Hi skatty. If it goes all the way, select the one with best insurance for you, and lowest tax band that meets your day to day needs. I know you have a down on the Focus, but I am just about to go on to me third. Will be Cmax 2 dti. Ticks all my boxes. But good luck. Its been an interesting thread.
If i remember correctly Warranty Direct do a league table of which makes cause the most/least warranty claims. I seem to remember that Honda and Mazda were joint top.
I've got the Volvo v50 2.0 diesel, the engine is a ford tdci diesel, and pulls like a train but the car is too small with regard to storage etc. the mondeo diesel (tdci) is superb, the new ones (had a 08 hire car last week) are superb and i was wishing mine was due for change so i could have one!
One thing to note!! mine is in for a new clutch tomorrow at 85000 miles (yes I do the mileage, its only a 55 reg!) its not slipping but the release bearing is sqeaking and the clutch 'clicks' when taking up the drive, its still under warranty but i was shocked at the clutch change as it mainly sits on a mway.
I used to have a 2001 passat 1.9 100hp, I found it very unreliable!! more so than the next car I had which was a laguna! it was also noisier. The laguna was great, just a turbo replaced at 65000 under warranty.
Had a CRV and it was the best car we've owned. If I was to recommend a make of car to someone, the only one I would is Honda.
Never had a problem in 3 1/2 years and 60,000miles. Dealers were friendly and not to costly for servicing. Just remembered, the CD player would throw a wobbly occassionally, but that was on month 36 of buying new and Honda replaced the unit no fuss. It didn't help that my daughter fed a grubby CD into it before hand!
