The next generation D3 (D4) is going to have a 3 litre diesel, but has better fuel consumption and loads more grunt!! Also going in the RR Sport . There are a lot of improvements too.

Comes out later this year-bet the price goes up!

The D4 looks an awesome piece of kit. Something like 250bhp and 440lb torque? as opposed to the D3's 190bhp and 320lb?

I'm not so sure that prices will increase that much, if at all. Dealers may off-load D3's at more favourable forecourt prices but in the middle of a recession, LR will be happy to shift the new model from the production line rather than stockpile or reduce workers hours.

Perhaps a remap and big intercooler (if available..) for a D3 would give about the same performance? After buying a good D3, 29k miles and still with 8 months warranty at £1000 less than half the new price, I'd be very shy of buying new. Depreciation is a killer right now.

Each life is short. Make the most of this one while you can, you may not have a Land Rover or skis next time.

I was passed by 2 Discovery 4s on trade plates yesterday on M54, they look nice, more like a Range Rover from the front. I assume they were on test as they were shifting!

I have a disco 3 HSE on an 06 plate and it's worth knowing that the power is there when you need it. The throttle setup means that there is more pedal travel before you reach that peak.  I know what it's like though, push too far on the pedal and all that good work in getting a good mpg reading on the dash is dashed!!!

To say that the 2.5 Disco 2 had more grunt (an earlier post reply) doesn't sound right. The D3 is in a different class.  I look forward to the D4 (maybe when they reach 4 or 5 years old and within my range).

my D3 was my 4th landrover, many great points,a few bad ones, clutch went at 17000 miles all tyres changed at 23000 miles and the rear tyres had unbelievable wear on the inside edges ,still apart from that it was a great towcar although the gear change was a ponderous event and I often forgot what gear I was in ,managed about 28mpg and 24 mpg towing but when it went for a service, the good people at Melton Mowbray L/R lent me an all leather HSE Auto, it was brill and didnt really want my old car back,so traded it in for a splendid Range Rover Sport and the rest is history (and road tax!!)
