SX4 Is a very funky little suzuki, I would love one myself but boot isn't big enough for me Great cars, If your pleased with your skoda, who cares what other idiot drivers think and at 49mpg thats way better than chav-boys Corsa!

I had white van man very irate behind me this morning in a 30mph zone, flashing his head lights and driving so far up mr a**e I could see the make of chocolate bar he was eating with one hand on the wheel,

All because I was sticking to the limit

You should try driving around in my little Rover 1.1, actually on second thoughts you probably wouldn't want to , I don't think i've seen anyone under 70 driving one apart from me, its unreal the amount of people that fly up behind me, probably assuming that i'm going to be driving slowly in my little old lady car, and immediately start nudging to overtake. If they get too close i just slow down a bit and slow down extra early for junctions, although its not unknown for me to gesture over my shoulder asking them if they are after a lift.

My mum & stepdad have an Octavia which towed the van I have superbly.
And yes, it doesn't matter what you drive, if they (the idiots) want to go fast, they'll push all they can.

Having had a crash tuesday before last due to a REALLY aggressive idiot in a new shape Audi TT literally pushing traffic out of their way to overtake (all doing 50-55mph legally), forcing myself & the guy behind to take evasive action, I'm not happy. This lead to the guy behind rear-ending me and now I'm using a friend's little 1.2l Corsa (bog standard, no mods, heh) I'm even MORE aware of the idiots around

They soon know they've p***ed me off when they overtake tho, I stare at them with my huge beard and aggressive looks! GRRRRR! (I'm quite the opposite from my image really, heh )

When I finally find out if mine's written off or not, if I need to look for another car it may well be a diesel Fabia or similar as they're pretty grand little cars. I think some towing weights research is in the pipelines...

Try sticking a School of Motoring sign on top and you'll find they behave even worse, apart from trying to climb in the boot, they pull out in front with inches to spare as they can't possible get stuck behind a learner - even if the learner is tanking along at 59.5 mph in a 60 mph zone.

Mr Pete - Have a look at Seat as well - my Ibiza has a Volkswagon engine, 1.4 Tdi.

You ain't seen nothing till you drive a Smart car!!

Sold mine a few weeks ago but it was the fastest car I ever had, even so at every set of lights people HAVE to get past you.  Especially blokes in their faceless company cars.  The laugh was I could out accelerate most things,  and I frequently just put my foot down on the dual carriageways and blew them out the water

Once had a woman get out her car at the lights and ask me why I was accelerating when she was overtaking me? She hadn't got the speed to overtake me and was committed on a single track road so I felt sorry for her and dropped back. Don't know why I bothered after she gave me a mouthful of abuse.

I have a Passat estate now - sensible family estate - so it's a bit boring, but I would have happily had a Skoda if I could have found an auto estate in my price range, I'm sure it's the same car?

I just love the "gotta get in front of you" mentality of some aerosoles! as someone mentioned before,  I've got a big towbar on the back....... come closer and let me hit the brakes!!! rear end me and you'll get done for driving without due care and attention AND your car'll be done in cos my towbar'll go right through your radiator!!

Dont get intimidated, if you decide to speed up it's your license the points go onto!

Bryan

Hmmm, another good reason for getting a towbar!!!

Having had my old Astra Estate rear-ended so hard in stationary traffic that the subframe was bent, I am even more a fan of 'solid' cars now, no matter how they look. I think the tank-like Astra probably saved my life - only broken ribs and whiplash thankfully. I became a fan of MPVs after this, a bit more height also makes it easier to get into and out of.  I had a Scenic Fidgi first (very nice) then a regular Scenic (not as good as the Fidgi) and I changed again last October to a Skoda Roomster, which I am absolutely thrilled with.

The driving position is great with a good supporting seat, it has good visibility all round, and I'm told the rear seats are amazingly comfy too. But the big plus is that is has a HUGE boot and removable seats, so I can fit in all the camping gear, plus wheelchair, plus scooter, plus 1 or 2 passengers as well...

MrPete,

Have been towing with a 1.9TDi Fabia estate for the last 2 years and it was a good towing car if a little limited by 1000Kg limit and a 50Kg nose wight but with my van that wasn't a major issue. Have now got a Octavia as might be changing to a bigger van.

motorway, the Octavia is built on the same running gear as the Golf/A3 just a bigger body.

My understanding is that the 'chassis' or floor pan is that of a VW Golf. So effectively an Octavia is a 'Golf with a boot'.

I bought my Octavia new. At the time an identicailly specified Golf was £5K more!!
