Hi all i,ve been told I need a new stepa valve fitted on the car as it sometimes stuggles to start after running for a long time ...... My question is what does a stepa valve do and how does it fix the problem .

If you know anything about it I would really like to know

 wayne

Someone must have told you that a new "stepa valve" was needed. Did you ever think to ask them what it is and what it does ? Please do this, and tell us, because, as the previous poster says, we're all gagging to find out what this mythical thing is ? And what it's really called ? And what it really does ?

If someone wandered up to me in the street and told me that I needed a new panjandrum, I wouldn't just nod and then pester the rest of the world to find out what a panjandrum is.

your after an IAC (idle air control) valve by the souns of it, most of them are simple to change but you could also clean them with carb cleaner but it normally only prolonged the replacement.

oh and for the bill i think more after theve charged you for part labour reprogram and other adjustments they come up with.

Many new models don't have an IACV, they have a stepper motor in the throttle body - it's the only way to get fly-by-wire throttles to work bud also applies to many other engines with cable throttles. Replacing the whole throttle body is expensive when it has a stepper motor built in.
