My daughter bought her first car, a Renault Clio. Cost £400, only had about 40,000 on the clock. She had a new clutch, and exhaust in the 3 years she owned it, (all stuff that was just wear and tear), it never let her down once, all through the snow started first time. She sold it a few months ago for £350.
I think you need to know a bit about cars, but you take your chance I suppose.
