So how do you make it cheaper to own the petrol
On 2 fronts - The mileage you quote is better than i currently get with the freelander so with petrol being cheaper than diesel i still save money. 2) for the difference in price and the mileage it will cover I only break even (with the difference in price of the vehicles) in 3 years - makes sense to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!
------------- The things that come to those who wait, may be the only things left by those who got there first.
I spent a few years working for Hyundai in the North West, and the number of Diesel Tucsons sold over Petrols was considerable.
Part of my job was to do a full pre-delivery inspection and test drive every sold vehicle before handover, and I much preferred driving the diesel models between dealerships (and this was without having to pay for the fuel).
Keep and eye out for a good condition CRTD CDX or a newer CRDi Style or Premium (I'm not as familiar with the newer ones TBH) and you're laughing. I'd get one myself, but our dog has bad hips and would never make it into the back any more
If a Tucson is the price range you're looking at, also consider a Kia Sportage, very similar in a lot of respects as they are both owned by the same parent company.

Getting a decent Kia Sportage or Sorento is like BP trying to stop an oil well flowing - almost impossible
True enough. With the length of warranty Kia have been offering over recent years, people are happy to hang on to the higher spec models for longer than they would usually.
