I beleive some of the twin axle Lunar caravans are very light. The Mondeo does get a lot of threads here regarding the clutch burning out though and I know they are an expensive clutch to replace. Maybe it would be worth getting a mover and saving the clutch from reversing the caravan which seems to be what does the most damage.

with our 05 Mondeo 2lt TDCI we tow our Bailey Magestic - 1142kg with no trouble. As this is our first van we decided to stay under the 85% recommended towing.

We do have a motor mover - blessings!! Read all about them here http://www.caravanmotormover.com/

Yes i am led to believe I have towing issues as I passed in Sept 97.  I believe this rule was brought in July 97?!

My friend passed march 97 and has the same privilages as my hubby.

So roughly how much does my car weigh?  And can I tow the bassacarr cameo 600glx?

Your Mondeo has a maximum laden weight of 2025kg and you are restricted to a total of 3500kg train weight so you will be illegal if you tow any caravan which weighs more than 1475kg. The Bessacar 600glx weighs in with a maximum weight of 1700kg so uness you take an extra test there is not a car available to you which you could legally tow it with.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

It can tow Mark's lovely caravan......which (by the way) is for sale.

The advert is here

With a September 1997 licence the only Hobby Prestige that he can tow legally is the 460UFE all the others have a MTPLM of 1500kg or more making his max allowable train mass greater than the 3500kg he is allowed. Nice van though.

Yeah so I've heard, but didn't know that at the time, the towbar fitter never mentioned it either, just charged me £250. But anyway we only towed it once and wasn't happy with it so now we have a Landrover and its great!

I weighed our 52' TDCi hatch on the weigh bridge at work, at 1470kg. Our van is 1500kg MTPLM. We basically towed an empty van, but for battery & crocks etc. All stuff went in the car. MIRO was 1270kg so van was probably about 1300kg or so. Either way it towed nice, plenty of power but you knew there was a heavy van on the back.
We now have a Galaxy to tow with & that is perfect. Very stable.

Motor mover is expensive but so worth it.

Best type have motors attached to the caravan chassis and they drive the caravan wheels. Your can spin the caravan in its own length. Uses the caravans battery to run them.

Lookup caravan motor mover on youtube, No more pushing & arguments.

My 54 ford mondeo estate 2.0 TDci tows my Abi Brightstar (1300kg tplm) very smoothly and gets about 38mpg. it is the best car I have had both for towing and solo, just had its DMF and clutch changed at 120,000 miles which cost £500 but I feel was well worth it and has needed very little else for all I have put it through.
Definatly recommended.

Mondeo estate we had was a 2007 with a kerbweight of 1574 kg. We tow a 2007 abbey mtplm 1490. Towed like a dream! Now tow with a Honda crv and have to say the Mondeo was a much superior tow car imho. This may have been that it was 175 bhp. Still tow with the Honda but Hubby has just bought the new model mondeo as he loved the other one so much! Wouldn't think you could safely tow a twin axle with one though.Oh and the fuel economy is much better with the Mondeo too!
