As others have said it will 99% certantiy be the stabalizer pads or in one way or the other. Ours was as our youngest called "farting" when going round slow corners and towns etc. A freind of ours said at the weekend that his was always doing it no matter how many times he cleaned and lubicrated bits that need lubrication.

If you think it maybe the car suspension, try hosing all the moving parts of your suspension with water from a hosepipe.

Sounds silly but I used to do a lot of offroading and the bushes used to dry out and creak, so I used to soak them with water. They stopped creaking.

If it works then you may need to get some rubber grease or silicone spray for next time it creaks.

Obviously its more likely to be the hitch but you cant lubricate it because its the stabiliser type.

Yes, had the suspension checked out and all ok on the car, so not that. Will keep in mind though, it may come in handy one day!

Hi again! I finally found out what was causing the awful sounds...

I cleaned everything (towbar, hitch) and it was ok towing this weekend, UNTIL I went over a few potholes (couldn't avoid them) and then it started again...

When we got to the campsite, I had a friend walking beside the van to find out where the sound was coming from and it was the stabilser on top of the hitch.

This was fixed t'other week. It wasn't noisy until it was fixed! LOL.. I think the pad on one side was working and the other not until 'fixed' (the pin on one side had come out, so a new pin and stuff sorted out) and now it seems to be either 'bedding in' or not working properly. Either way I have uneven pads and that's what's causing the noise...

On the way home I disconnected the stabiliser and drove home without it and - no noise. No less stable either, in spite of being on a dual carriageway with many lorries overtaking. So I either need to get some new stabilser pads, or take it off altogether.

Now I've just discovered that the caravan handbrake isn't working! I wondered it this was part of the hitch? It appears to connect to a metal cylinder which then disappears underneath the trailer (obviously connected to the caravan wheels) so perhaps a mobile engineer will have to be called... £££

Can anyone tell me whether this can be done yourself? Do I (by that I mean someone else with muscles!LOL) just need to tighten up the handbrake cable in some way?
There's always something!
