Kerbweight 1250kg, put a towbar on it and give it a try. It should be quite capable of doing that job, you do not have a lt to lose since you can try caravnning without much setup costs. if the car is less than ideal or if it feels really short of puff just use it this year and save up for something a bit igger with a bit more oomph. Don't get too carried away ith BHP if you do thoigh, what matters is oodles of torque which is why diesels do such a good job.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Can you fit one yourself? Or is it a specialist job?

You should get about 23mpg with this set up, and will tow ok, I reckon outfit will probably just about  hold 60mph. May I suggest you try it for a few months, its by far your cheapest option.

If you have ask the question, then yes it is a specialist job. If your ok with mechanical work & have the tools you can diy. A towbar will be about £100 unless you can find a secondhand one. with a car of that age you will be able to scotchlok wiring so cheap.

That would be £100 for the towbar itself. If have one fitted by a towbar fitters it would probably be £250 upwards including twin electrics for whole job.

Hi

Just one point that occurs to my non expert mind, cant see that you have mentioned make/model of van. An mtplm of 900kg for a 4berth van seems very light to me, without wanting to doubt your figure, are you sure this is the higher of the two weights on the rating plate? rather than the lower, miro ("unladen")weight.

The 2.0L Diesel Mondeo is an excellent tow car and it just happens that I am about to exchange mine for a later model. I have had it for over six years and towed all over UK and france with no probs.

If U R interested email me on dunernin at googlemail.com.

I live in the Bristol area
