Time for a quick update if anyone's is interested.
We got the Juke diesel and it pulls the van fine.
It's got a max towing weight of 1245 and our van is 1100.
We had a run around Northumberland at the weekend, plenty of hills and B roads, and although it doesn't like 6th gear on anything but a long flat stretch, it behaved perfectly.
Been having a good look around at updating our van, but it seems the newer the model, the heavier they are.
Although our van is a '98, it's bone dry and in excellent nick, so we're settled for the time being.
The Juke will never replace our Landy, but it's a good replacement for the space shuttle!
6th gear on most cars these days are for motorway speed limit or higher.
They drop the revs to below the engines maximum torque so you would be getting worse fuel consumption in 6th anyway.
I did a quick test on mine today, 40mph in 3rd gear 9-11% throttle position.
Changed up to 4th and i actually needed to push the throttle down further to maintain speed 15-19% of its travel.
Backs up my findings that at 50mph 6th gave worse economy. 80+mph actually improves the economy.
After 3 trips away this year, Practical Caravan has confirmed my decision.
The Juke came 3rd in its class in the 'up to 1424kg' class.
Great, and economical, towcar..

We looked at the Kia, and the Yeti. Both thirsty compared with the diesel Juke, which should give my wife about 45-50 mpg on her work commute.
Thanks everyone, as always, good friendly advice.
Don't know what Yeti you looked at, but my 1400bhp diesel 4x4 is giving me 49mpg on a 48 mile cross country commute, and 32mpg towing from Norfolk back to Wales.
And we have reports from several ex-Joke owners on one of the Yeti Forums stating that they rarely exceeded 40mpg with their comparable 4x4's, in normal driving.
I do chuckle when I see "Yeti" owners trying to put down "Juke" owners. However with more power than a Bugatti Veyron it seems maybe i should have a look at the Yeti ....Glad OP's car choice is working for them
