I would like a cheap but reliable system for checking the tyres.
Some of the car one struggle with the distance from the caravan wheel to the main box.
Would have to butcher the display to separate it from the receiver.
I think it was rule 109 or something that mentions sat navs and screens that show the space adjacent to the vehicle are legal.
So not made up or copied from a forum.
I initially thought the same as others. When moving screens should go off. Or not be visible to the driver.
But designs of cars with cameras for mirrors must have changed that.
Many thanks for the forum members indulgance. I think, as suggested will contact the boys in blue and try to resolve this question. Once I have an answer I will re-post for other members information.
Just to muddy the waters still further (or just stir things up! ) -
(from the link)
"(2) In this regulation “television receiving apparatus” means any cathode ray tube carried on a vehicle and on which there can be displayed an image derived from a television broadcast, a recording or a camera or computer."
.... so a flatscreen LCD/LED/Plasma screen would be OK - can I have a 50inch HD version please....

It is legal to have reversing camera screen on at all times but they are not a substitute for mirrors on both sides, mirrors will still be required. If you notice a number of bus companies now, many of them have dome cameras on both sides and rears with recording equipment also.
idris, had you any specific euipment in mind? i looked at some a few years back, but the wifi wasnt up to the job to transmit from rear of van to car dash without spending big bucks
i too beleive it would be useful to see behind, even if only to help compensate for the muppet that wants to see inside the rear window!
would also be good to for reversing of course....looks impressive when you roll up, and back it straight in without getting out of the car to check
All, I am a Roads Policing Officer in England and I can put your mind at rest with regards to having the monitor for the reversing camera on all of the time. You will not be prosecuted for using such a device. It is only like you are using your rear view mirror.
I am too a Caravaner and have one installed onto mine. I also had the option to attach it to the reversing lights, so it would only activate when I am in reverse, however I chose to go down the ON ALL THE TIME route.
To answer all that wonder why I want on all of the time, my answer is this. As Diesel Steve said a lot of vehicles can tailgate and are not visable in the mirrors. So if I am approaching a junction which I may be tourning into, I can indicate and brake well before I needed to, in order for the vehicle behind to respond and not plough into the back of me. Yes I know it would be the other drivers fault, but I would rather avoid someone rear shunting me and spoiling my holiday, and give them a little more braking time.
have to laugh

so LCD TVs are ok then!!!!
loads of trucks have rear view cameras these days, to illeviate blind spots, as do many newer top end cars, is it BMW that have a forward facing IR camera too for night vision?

I spotted that too. I'm off to get a plasma screen fitted in the car.
