If you don't mind me asking what age of Mondeo did you get,and is the £1400 you mention the cost to change price, as if it was the retail price on the windscreen I would love to know the name of your dealer.

Thanks.

52 Plate. Was at a dealer on Canvey Island, Essex. Forecourt price was £1695, drove it off for £1400 cash.

Lots of dealers in the area kept the price low also didn't help him he advertised it as a TDDI which are worth a fair bit less. His loss my gain after a quick check on the ford fleet website brought up it as a 130 TDCI.

Cor is that dealer still trading?

I'am looking at 54 to 55 plate with similar mileage and they seem to be up for £3,000 to £4,000.

£3000 - £4000 for a 54/55?

I bought an 04 estate in 2009 for just over £2000.

And estates are dearer, I could have got a hatch for less than £2k.

Ive seen MK4's for less than £4k. But i dont think i would buy one. :D

Find one of the last MK3's i think.

The DMF on the petrol cars are similar money, But they dont have the huge torque of the diesels so last MUCH longer.

Was that from a dealer or private sale, what mileage did you one have on purchase, and what model is yours. I am looking at Ghia X models.

Yes the MK4 would be too big for us

How long would a petrol DMF last against a diesel DMF.

Just buy one with the DMF/Clutch done. Plenty around that have had it done recently. If it comes with receipts and a warranty you'll have many years of troble free driving.

I wouldn't touch one with 80k+ miles and no history of the work being done unless the price was low enough to allow you to get the work done yourself. If you're towing the peace of mind is worth it.

I bought an 04 130ps 6 speed Mk3 Mondeo hatchback in may for £1500 from a dealer. Admittedly I had seen them asking more than that for 115 ps 5 speed 02 models privately. The one I bought already had a tow bar fitted too which was a big bonus. (We priced a towbar at a minimum of £300 with electrics)

It had a new MOT and 6 months tax included. To be honest, we took it straight into a garage for a service, brake reline and a rear wheel bearing. (The brake pads were advised on the MOT certificate; no mention of the wheel bearing which IMHO should never have passed the MOT)

The DMF is a little bit noisy, but I am a former mechanic and can do the job at cost which taking the cost of the towbar into account still makes the car cheaper than most of the earlier models with no towbar and there's nothing to say the DMF was any better on those.

I wonder how many will get mugged when ford bring out the 1litre mondeo model later this year.

Saying that a ford fiesta 1litre engine has powered a road legal race car around the Nurburgring in a world record time

See top gears web site for the facts

I am sure a 1 litre Mondeo will perform adequately if driven harshly. I certainly wouldn't want to tow with one though.

Thanks for all the replies, test drove the Mondeo, and it seemed a very large car, and the one we drove was probably not a good example as it appeared the DMF was on its way out.

So have purchased something else instead, an Octavia

Had that problem when I first got mine. Check the wiring at the bottom of the windscreen, near the bonnet hinges. Mine had chaffed and as a result the connector plug had melted. Repaired the wiring, realigned the plug and replaced the fuse and it works perfectly.

I have a 55 plate 115. Fantastic car but was ready for a change. I traded it in yesterday for an 09 plate 140Psi 6 speed 2L TDCI. Pick it up Monday. My dad has had a few mondys and loves them too

The MK4 doesnt seem to have as many fans as the MK3.

Too much tech and not enough money spent on the quality.
