Have you looked at the caravelair vans, they are quite light weight,
I don't think the s max is particularly heavy towcar either to be honest,

Well peeps the deed is done, now the owner of a 56 cmax tdci ghia kerbweight 1544kg. Will give me more options now and hopefully should sell the astra no trouble.

hi nutkins i have had a 1.8 tdci cmax for three years and started towing my first caravan this year have had no problems towing my fleetwood countryside 450ek its max weight all up is 1268kgs enjoy !!!!

Our first van was a Bailey Ranger 470/4 4 birth. It had a max weight of 1179 kg & we used to tow it no problems with a Honda Civic.

If the C-Max is overpriced then look for something else. You see Mondeos a lot less than that.

You could have got the astra chipped to around 130 bhp and saved yourself some money

My sister nearly bought an astra about 6 or 7 years ago, Until i told her that car had 67BHP.

How do they get so little power from an engine?

Hey everybody, off to pick up the Cmax next weekend weighs in at 1544kg apparently which gives me a broad range to choose from. Going to start seriously looking for some good used vans now £4-5000 ish. Anyone bought from ads on here? was looking earlier and seemed to be some good stuff.
Ideally would like a Geist 4/5 berth, read lots of glowing reports but they maybe a bit too heavy??

When we was away last a Ford C Max came in with a Bailey Orion 430/4  on the back talk about low at the back the Jockey wheel was nearly touching the ground and it was making a really awful creaking noise . When they pulled up they must have brought the kitchen sink never seen so much stuff for two people. 

( So i think the Geist 4/5 berth caravans  are far to heavy  ????????

C-MAX 1.8 and 1.8 petrol 1200kg max towing limit.

2L petrol 1400kg.

1.6TDCI 115bhp+ not the lower power one 1300kg.

1.8TDCI 115bhp+ 1500kg but with a kerbweight of just over 1450kg.

2L TDCI 130+bhp 1300kg.


Just a few figures. But plenty of variations over the years.
So do check the figures before buying aything.

We've bought the 2.0 TDCI Ghia. Checked on parkers before hand and it was listed as 1544kg so should be ok with anything around the 1250-1330kg MTPLM I think.
