I merely quoted what the CC and all the other professional associations say, which is that for a beginner it is recommended that they should aim for a towing match that is less than 85%, but for someone with experience and using a suitable towing vehicle that up to 100% is acceptable.
Who am I to disagree with them or even to comment on the validity of what they say.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
To be honest how many people actually bother. How many times have you walked round a caravan site and saw some strange matches. The most common train of thought is, its a 2litre diesel that will pull anything. Well power wise there is probably a good chance it will, I have never had anyone come up to me and say my cars weight is ....... what should I look for.
Anyway back to towcar of the year, I didn't like the way the cars were split into the categories. My preferred split would be small hatch, family car, or price ranges, much more fairer. I know it is sponsored by Bailey, nut it would be good to also provide a range of caravans that would be suitable for each category.
How about best buy 3 year old car for towing a family sized caravan upto 1450kg. That would be more use to me than shiny new cars I can't afford.
