So it looks like the absolute maximum you should tow is 1635kg ( it may not be illegal to tow more but it is unwise )and the 1500kg would be a good starting point, though if you ever intend towing with a full car the 1500kg is the absolute maximum.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Just phoned the trader today to get all the figures and was quite pleased when he said the MTPLM was 1440kg, therefore it is within the capacity of the car. Only downside is I've only got 152kg payload.

Like I said, collect all you want to take and then see what all of that weighs, what can go in the car, with kids and Mum and what can go in the van. Then start to agree just what MUST stay at home because you just don't have the capacity. Set your stall out from day one and everyone will understand. Even the kids!!!! If they don't then they stay at home and you CAN take the awning. Even better.
