Na, measured out the right amount (1.9 litre), then took it for a good run.

No noise and a smoother gear change.

Too much is as bad as too little.

The filler plug is on the front face of the box.

If it starts to whine there isnt enough oil and the gears are running dry. If you start to get leaks its overfilled and forcing past the oil seals.

2 expensive repairs.

you need to put the car on level ground and remove the filler/level plug. If oil runs out leave it til it stops and then replace the plug. If no oil comes out put more in til it does start to run out.

Like others have said it sounds like you've you've filled it through the reverse light switch or something.....
