If the OP is looking at/considering a 2006 Sportage it is very unlikely he will be looking at the latest Superb or Octavia, unless there are some promotions bring the price down to around that of a 2006 Sportage which I very much doubt.

And so far nothing has been mentioned that will allow him to tow that caravan without taking a test.

I'll say it again then. Take the test. That's the only thing that's going to work.

Not the new superb, its well capable with the 140 tdi CR engine, Bessie, go and check the figures before you try to be clever, actually the Octavia 140 or 170 TDI CR will also tow it
Superb 140 tdi

Kerbweight 1472

Bob not being clever the line in red says it all, his caravan is 1577 kg thats almost 100 kgs more than the skoda's kerbweight  would you tow that outfit ???

Going of your calculations i should of got a focus to tow my 1500 kg coachman

Greendemon315 i agree the only option the op has is to do the test

All of them still puts them over the limit with that caravan though.

I doubt there is a car thats heavy enough to tow it and also below the gross limit required.

How many actualy load there vans to the (MTPLM though, I expect that many would be between the MTPLM and the MIRO

I doubt if many will ever weigh there vans loaded , and I can bet that many are overloaded judging by what comes out when they arrive on site.

Bessie, the spare wheel will be included in the MIRO, if the van comes with a spare, and the battery

Bob it's not, somebody on here told me that so i checked with Coachman, and they confirmed its not part of the MIRO. and the battery you have to get yourself hence different amp choices.

It's so easy to tot up the weight without even trying, my spreadsheet is caravan typical for main summer holiday

I know I am bumping an old thread, passed my B+E so I felt more comfortable and legal in case anything happened. I currently run a Hyundai Santa Fe 2.0 4WD TD (Y reg so old but working) I can get 35mpg solo on motorways. I recently over Easter went to Barmouth from Banbury. I had to fill up a few times and so far it seems to come out at about 21-23mpg, which isn't too bad I suppose.

Easily cruise at 55/60 on motorway but didn't have any 'umpf' if I needed it. So I am off out car shopping or van shopping. Going to look at a new car first, so after some advice again please:

I have passed my B+E
Van is
MTPLM of 1577
MRO of 1386

Happy to stick to 4x4 or go with a Mondeo/estate car really. Wife has own car but we may go down to a one car family soon.

I do fancy a change of a caravan but unless I can do a direct swap I wont have the funds for a newer/smaller van.

Thanks in advance

If you dont want a 4x4 type then you wont go to far wrong with an smax.

We have the 2.2 version which has plenty of poke to spare but the 2.0 versions also pack a punch..

Hey bob you been busy handing over all those 13 reg skoda's   you've not been around all march

Biffor the skoda is a great tow car but is to light for your coachman, stick with the s max or get the 4x4 skoda

I only paid £7000 for mine a 59 plate with 36,000 on the clock last year now on 85,000.
You can get some nice lowish milage examples if you look on auto trader, there is even an LPG version
