Thank you. Well our search for a Mondeo is in full swing now! We agreed to buy the caravan last night!! Eeeeeek! So. Uch to learn about it all now. The chap we bought it from is really pleased it is going to us as they have been friends with my Mum for years!
Anyway, it is going for its first service on 20 April so I am hoping the chap will tow it to the storage yard afterwards and I will own it from then!
Now, my quandary. We don't have loads to spend on a tow car, probably could go to 8k at a real push. I can't decide whether it is best to go for a slightly older ne with less miles or a newer one with higher mileage. Is it just from 09 that the noseweight is 90kg? Do I defintiely need 90kg?
I understand about the kerbweight business byt nw the old noseweights are confusing me! I know it is definitely 2l diesel we need, pref hatch or saloon.
There seem to be alot of them out there but the mileage is so high! I guess that is a good indication of how long they are capable f running for if looked after.
Thanks for any help.

For £8000 you should be able to get something like this. Im not sure what year the noseweight limit was changed to 90kg but I know for sure my 2009 Mondeo is 90kg and come in very handy when we were towing our Swift Challenger

Mondeo flywheels fail between 80 and 150 Thousand miles and are expensive. If you have a choice of a high mileage one with a new flywheel or a medium mileage one on the original, go for the high mileage one.
We have narrowed down about six Mondeos that we are going to see tomorrow. They are all 2l diesel, 58 plate onwards with varying miles. They all look like great cars! Oh how bored the children are going to be!!
Very excited and I shall update you all to orrow.
Thanks again for all of your help!

ALL cars have some form of problem or other ,ALL caravans have some form of problem or other ,if you listen to all the tales of woe you wouldn't buy anything ,me i get my new (04 plate ) mondeo zetec estate on monday ,after my up till last weekend reliable picasso developed terminal mechanical problems .so good luck in your search ,just get a car with full service history .and when you get a towbar fitted make sure you stipulate a ALKO type tow ball ,as it will be different to the one you used to pull the trailer .
.your new van will be fitted with a stabiliser type hitch ,so you must have the right type of tow ball on the car and NEVER use grease on it .something else for you to know about .
I informed my insurance about that ,the other day and they said they didn't,t need to know .suppose it might vary company to company ,depending on how much they use small print to wriggle out of claims ,I am with NFU and cannot praise them enough
