In that case, Nat, no reason why you should not go for the Santa Fe, if that is what you want. It is still heavier kerbweight than the caravan anyway and well within it's max tow weight.
we are finally picking our santa fe up tomorrow...

I know, having a 4th child puts debate on this though dies to lack of boot space for the awning, Cadac, beach stuff , lafumas etc.
Another question though would there be any benefit in having a vehicle say that has a towing liit of 2500 against one that has a towing limit of say 2000 if our caravans weight is 1800. When I thought the 85% related to the tow limits as opposed to kerb weight I was looking for as big a tow limit as possible. Is this still beneficial or is the kerbweight margins a more beneficial area to have, is here any benefit in having such a large towing capacity, other than having scope to tow something even bigger and heavier?
Best bet, to see how much space is there with 6 seats in use, is to see it first hand if you can.
Another one to throw in the mix for you, have you considered the Kia Sorento, you can get 7 seats, around 2500kg kerbweight and 2000kg tow limit for the auto, if you have a Kia dealer nearby well worth a look.
We have quite limited options being a family of 6, but there are a few alternative routes we can take and we keep chopping and changing. This weekend we will be out and about visiting dealers and trying to base our decision on what we see then.
Kia has been owned by Hyundai for some years now. (Hyundai is the 4th largest car manufacturer in the world and is also one of the largest manufacturing groups in the world!) They sell the Santa Fe in the USA with a massive V6 engine!
BUT
Under the skin, the Santa Fe and the Sorento are pretty well identical.
What is the kerb weight on the Santa Fe? Is it the same on the manual and auto?
Also this may be a silly question, but what would be the benefit of having a vehicle with a towing limit of 2500kg as opposed to 2000kg when towing a caravan of 1800kg? Aside from being able to buy a heavier caravan of course?
I've just always focused on the highest tow limits, but is that really necessary?
I guess what I'm wondering is would the Santa Fe be ok for our caravan if we had it replated to 1800kg?
It's Santa Fe, i800, xc90, vw transporter and my mind is boggled!
