Thanks A&M - have just been playing again on that site and the cars do both look pretty good, it's just that the Santa Fe looks a little bit more good ;-) If only low mileage ones were easier to come by!
Isn't the Kia Sportage a rebadged Santa Fe? Any of those around? A friend of ours has one and thinks its very good. Only the ML has a 30 year anti corrosion warranty tho!
And it looks absolutely lovely and all the owners' reviews on the various websites are uniformly positive, which is pretty darned unusual! However, on a quick glance (as technically I'm supposed to be working and I'm not sure I can bill anyone for my current tow-car hunting obsession!), it looks like I'd have to go for a fairly old one to get anything similarly priced to the other two :-(
Worth looking around maybe? Since we got ours and I started to notice them I've never seen a rough looking one. I think people tend to take care of them. Cheaper car tax than some too.
Had my CRV serviced last week. Only a basic oil and filter and inspection . Including an MOT £142.41, MOT was half price because we bought the car from them.
I think a very reasonable price considering they picked it up from my house and dropped it back having been washed and vacuum cleaned.
I am happy with my S Max 2.0 L diesel Titanium. Max tow weight 1750. Caravan max 1600 would make it 94% so I keep it to 1550 kg, 86%. or less to be safe and get the nose weight right.
I bought it in London and towed it back to Northumberland with at least 1600 kg because of extras. Towed easily 55 miles an hour and Computer said '32 MPG'. One trip over to Carlisle (Quite a lot of hills) since with less weight 33 MPG.
Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm surprised at the Mondeo - I keep getting it at 94% kerbweight on the CC website, no matter how many variations I check?
The CRV comes out at 90%, so will stick it on the spreadsheet. Off to check the rest
My mondeo weighs in at 1705kgs on Shell's weigh bridge as i said before the mondeo is a lot hevier than you think, i tow a 1500 kg 6 birth coachman with mine no problem, i wouldnt bother with extra 4x4 cost unless i lived in a area that required it.
Hi if you are looking for a car rather than 4x4 have a look at Mercedes E Class. I had same problem I towed a 1500kg van with C4 Picasso Auto. Then sold that van and bought 1600kg van And C4 was to light So started looking for replacement car And Mercedes E Class can tow 1900kg the auto more
The Santa Fe I looked at - nearly new - had no spare. It just had that sticky stuff which does a temporary job but probably ruins the tyre. The new Sorento auto looks good. Now in a lower tax band , lower emmissions and 100 kg noseweight together with a 7 year warranty. Just dreaming!
Just to throw something in the mix - Volvo V60 D5 Estate
Tows our Abbey 417 GTS very easily, 1500kg is slightly above the 85% threshold but Volvo state a max towing limit for the car of 1800kg, also getting very high 20's on the fuel mileage.
